False TAT temperature indication with PMDG MD-11

Featured Replies

Really? This thread just died? No one comes up with a solution? That's it?I do not own ASA or ASX. I fly on Vatsim, and use their weather updates.I fly the PMDG MD-11and this happens EVERY time I get over FL 245Abnormally high TAT (usually +38 to +40C) Loss of power, barely able to maintain altitude, and I am not over mountains or oceans, etc. as a NON ASA OR ASX sim pilot, experiencing the same issue, I offer that to the conversation.IF anyone else knows of the fix or why this is happening, I would greatly appreciate some feedback.

Why do come then here and ask in Hifi Forum? :( The FSInn Weather problem is well known as you can read in the 2nd sticky in the VATSIM Forum
Weather Bug in FSInn/FSX (affects Speeds, Temperatures, and Climb [above FL245]) This is an issue with FSX/Simconnect/weather. When flying at high altitudes (above FL245) there's a miscommunication between FSX and FSInn concerning the temperature. This TAT problem isn't experienced when flying below FL245. The resolution is to turn off FSInn's weather when flying above FL245 and use an alternate such as FSX's weather. There are two ways. o Turn the weather off by default (Inn Control Panel -> Set -> Weather [Check/Uncheck]). With this option You will in effect use whatever alternate weather you already have in effect with Flight Simulator. o Or (what I consider preferred) turn it off or on on-the-fly by clicking the CAVOK bottom to turn FSInn's Weather off or clicking the VATSIM cloud to turn it on. When you turn FSInn's weather off, use FSX's download real weather +15 minute option. To resume FSInn's VATSIM weather, just click on the cloud next to VATSIM

Hi Russert...Thats my point...try a long range flight WITHOUT loading up a flightplan into ASA n let us know. Im thinking thats what allowed me to make that 9 hr flight without any issues (not saying its a fix but a good point to start troubleshooting). I came across your fix from the other thread in this forum...i think i did it incorrectly tho..but ill try it again and let you know.
I fly PMDG a/craft (MD11, 747 and 737) in FS9 also the PMDG JS41 in FSX with ASA or ASE and I have never had this problem. I use FSNav flight plans but I never load them into ASA/ASE.Iain Smith

This thread died a death didn't it! Beating your head against a brick wall gets tiring! Here's a sequence of events, from someone who's very strictly an amateur, so this is strictly speculation.Loading a flightplan in ASE results in lots of "enhanced weather coverage" calculations for the route to add to normal station based weather. This is smoothed during flight - as I understand it by translating weather at the current position forward to the points in front. When a flight is saved some (?) or all (?) of this is saved with it in a weather file. Or is it the just the FSX part? The original or the smoothed version? Some (?) or all (?) of this is reloaded when the flight is restarted. At some point, ASE re-initialises into FS using its CURRENT weather download, starting presumably from the current in flight position, which isn't consistent with the saved file. Does it completely overwrite the restored weather file or leave gaps with no weather or weather which is inconsistent with the rest of the set?I mention this at this very late stage because:i) It may mean that not loading a flight plan avoids the enhancing and smoothing processes. No doubt this reduces the benefits from ASE but does it also avoid inconistencies? Are we in effect flying into "holes" where no weather has been calculated? i.e. does the aircraft suddenly think we have ground temperature air being forced into the pitot at 500 knots TAS? That's going to be warm.ii) Are inconsistencies between saved & current weather exacerbating the problem? Does this explain why loading the correct historic weather file eliminates the problem because the old and the new weather are starting from the same data set? I don't know but it's my best wild guess based on what I see. I'm certain Hi-Fi have done great work in improving weather in FS. What I'm not so sure about is whether we as users are finding combinations of ways of using FS & ASE which weren't anticipated to create problems for ourselves. However, we can't sort those out without Hi-Fi's support. Somebody said this thread is about PMDG aircraft only. It's not, it's any aircraft where the problem is seen to occur. It's just that I made the assumption the more sophisticated add-ons were in effect modelling a weather problem more accurately but that seems to be wrong - it does show on the default aircraft too. As someone said, add-on aircraft aren't weather programs - they aren't likely to be making TAT up as they go along. As an update, I'm mainly flying the PMDG Jetstream. I'm still seeing patches of +ve TAT at surprising high altitudes. However, the effect there is different. It doesn't affect the engines so directly but the anti-ice (to which the Jetstream is sensitive) is on & off like ..... well nobody's business.

Hi,1. FSX station weather is saved, whatever is in FSX.2. The saved data is loaded when you re-start FSX.3. The loaded data in FSX is overwritten upon the first ASE update. At this point NO NO NO old data is in FSX. When you restore your saved flight ASE updates again, based on the new location in your saved flight.4. At no time are there holes in the data.5. No a saved flight doesn't do or mean anything.6. There are no useage combinations that are creating problems. Please note that the poster who brought this thread up from the dead is not even using an AS weather program. Also, the next 2 posters who WERE/ARE using ASA/ASE do not experience these problems.

This problem is NOT a result of Hi-Fi software, it is a problem with FSInn/VATSIM. I had this same problem before I installed ASE, and the solution was to disable VATSIM weather and set FSX to real-world-weather updates. With ASE, the solution is the same but I let ASE inject the weather instead of FSX.

To repeat, and to avoid others being confused, I am not using VatSim or any other online ATC, so this IS an issue between ActiveSky and FSX.

Interesting Read on the TAT temperature problem...Yawn.gif PMDG MD-11 and the new PMDG 737-800-900 models had the same problem as everyone else through 6+ pages of reading attempting to find a solution...I tried them all.... My solution.... I opened up my registered copy of FSUIPC and "clicked on the box" clear out weather....my +50 degree C dropped instantly to +6degrees C and my beautiful aircraft came alive and started to climb...I did a thrust climb in the MD-11 from 15,000 to FL320 without any pains and the TAT dropped to -18 degree C at fl320...and kept humming for thousands of miles...Few minutes later I turned on REX2 to throw into the mix...Didn't have any effects or change anything... I use a program called "Tomcat" for setting up the aircraft... Bob Adams Idea.gif
