October 5, 200916 yr How much system resources does rex 2.0 take up? does it run in the background downloading every few minutes like ASA? ASA seems to be too much for my computer to handle when also trying to run fsx with complicated addons, I always get out of memory and d3d9.dll error messages. Thanks
October 5, 200916 yr I think the complicated aircraft add-ons suck up more resources than rex v2.0; however rex will use some of it.Rex downloads weather based on your miles flown. I set mine for 60 miles.Best to go here for help --> http://realenvironmentxtreme.com/forum/index.phpWhat are your computer specs? What O/S are you using? x32 or x64?
October 6, 200916 yr Commercial Member Hi 413X3Here's a tip if you just want to use the weather engine in REX and not use the GUI.You can navigate to your REX install directory and open the rex2wxengine.exe and bypass the GUI completely. Perhaps make a shortcut of that to the desktop for easy access.Just a thought ;)Cheers. Tim FuchsManaging PartnerREX SIMULATIONS website: www.rexsimulations.comsupport: www.rexaxis.com

ThanksI can tell you 100% that the complex aircraft and AI addons in this sim have a much higher impact on my system than REX. I occasionally fly with the default aircraft and get rock solid performance. Scott KGPI
October 6, 200916 yr In my experience it is not simply a fact of texture size, but also of texture variation. You will see better smoooooooooothness in the sim if you, say, load the 2048 REX textures, then load a HQ aircraft with 2048 textures than you will if you load one with 1024. It's more than just `load balancing` on the GPU, it seems it's also about `texture type bracketing` as well - same goes for certain combinations of 32-bit and .dds textures which cause more stuttering even though the overall texture load might be less. Possibly the modern GPU's are happy transferring large data streams, but only insofar as the textures streaming are from the same texture-type?YMMV, and the beauty of REX and Active Sky X is that they give you the options to change and try for yourself, on your rig, with your selections of scenery and aircraft, autogen and textures.
October 6, 200916 yr thanks everyone, i will try rex this weekend. I just noticed asa running in the background takes up a lot of cpu processing. I have 4gb of ram, vista x64, core2 3.0ghz (I am sure a quad core or i7 is a better fit but I just can't afford it yet) and a nice graphics card, 285gtx 1gb vram. I fly with the pmdg 747x and flight1 pc12 only. the pc12 runs fine but with the 747x I get constant crashes. Recently flew 2 8+ hour flights with the 747x and only default fs downloaded weather and got zero crashes so I am sure the other asa process not running probably helps my computer handle fsx by itself

Its like your computer smoked some really good thai stick.Pretty decent product otherwise.jja Jim Allen[email protected]SkyPilot Software home of FSXAssist / P3DAssist
October 7, 200916 yr Hi,Set ASA to run on core 2 and that will help. Thanks,Thanks I will try that. But I swear something is going on with the change of textures that asa does, during the process of changing from day to dusk to night my virtual cockpit and outside textures constantly disappear. Maybe the core2 will fix it. I'll try
October 7, 200916 yr Hi,ASA doesn't interact with the textures at all, or does it interact with dusk/dawn stuff! Thanks,
October 8, 200916 yr It's probably my computer that can't handle both FSX and ASA running at the same time. I desperately need an upgrade to an i7
October 8, 200916 yr Moderator It's probably my computer that can't handle both FSX and ASA running at the same time. I desperately need an upgrade to an i7I suggest you look closeley at your settings also. ASA or REX are not the cause of memory errors. I've had ASA running on a P4 3.4 system with no issues as you describe. Running ASA or REX might be the final straw, as they say, but I guarantee they are not the cause of your problem.Good luck! Have you read through this thread?Balck / Disappearing TexturesEdit: Yep...I guess you have.
October 8, 200916 yr But why does the issue not occur when I only run FS downloaded weather? There must be some conflict going on here. Thats why I wanted to try and see if REX caused the same problems that ASA did. Wasn't blaming either party as I'm not a programmer
October 8, 200916 yr Hi,Because downloaded weather does not require another program running mostly on core 1 as would FSX, your plane, and ASA or REX, and anything else you have running at the time. Shifting ASA to run on core 2 can help lighten the load. Thanks,
