adding traffic (AFCAD) to airports

Featured Replies

was flying to Acapulco and when i landed there was only 2 GA airplanes and a mexicana a318. i use WOAI and have probably over 100 packages and yet there is only 3 planes? how would i add AI planes at the gates using afcad and is there a way to make them move around and takeoff and land? thanks!

I hope somebody will answer this ? also. I to have tons of WOAI packages installed and very little show up at some airports. In fact I also notice that traffic will back up on the runway and land at the same runway that ai traffic is taking off, right on top of the plane taking off.

You wouldn't. AFCAD is an airport facilities computer aided design program for FS2002 and FS2004. It "sort of works" in FSX, but Airport Design Editor (ADE) is far, far superior to AFCAD, is FSX compliant, and is also FREE...Even so, that still won't add "traffic" to any airport. For traffic, you'd need to use a program such as AIFP (AI Flight Planner) to create customized traffic to/from a specific airport. Do not mix FS9 type traffic .bgl files with FSX type traffic .bgl files however, as the presence of FS9 type files will cause the FSX type to be ignored. Not too surprisingly, there is a dedicated forum here at AVSIM for your question: http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showforum=126

You can adjust the traffic slider to give you more or less traffic. AISmooth (free download) can help spread out AI so they don't bunch up.You can get more WOAI packages. I think there are 300 or so.Short of that, you can't add AI with AFCAD, but you can add AI with a program like AIFlightPlanner (AIFP). If you convert WOAI flightplans to FSX form, you will still have default traffic. Or you can download real world textures for default planes and not use WOAI at all.Bob

i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.

I guess one of the drawbacks of WoAI style traffic is that you get a traffic file for each airline -- makes it kind of hard to determine the total AI load at an airport. You could use a tool like AI Flight Planner or AI Traffic Mover to merge the traffic files and then do an airport traffic analysis. Alternatively if you have the FSX sdk you could install the traffictoolbox and use the traffic explorer to see what is around the airport in real-(sim) time.scott s..

the traffic slider was at 100% when i landed, is there a way to change the traffic file to make them go do different airports???

You can't add AI with an AFCAD (or ADE) but if your AI has flights for an airport that there isn't enough gates for, you wouldn't see it at that airport. This is where AFCADs help with AI. They add gates (Many assign proper airline parking) allowing the planes to land and park. This is what makes them very important for AI traffic. Edit: Looks like there was one in the library (including new scenery) but it looks like it was one of the victims in the library crash from the hack. flightsim.com doesn't seem to have it either. You may want to try one of the other FS sites like Simviation.com.

Thanks

I have not tried this yet but I think you can make traffic go to different airport in Ultimate Traffic 2. I have recently been using WOAI set at 40% and 50% GA (WOAI) along with Ultimate Traffic 2 set at 40% and no GA for Ultimate Traffic. I find doing this I can have more traffic without the heavy load as UT2 AI are handled different than WOAI BGL traffic. I find the performace too big of a hit to run UT@ at 80% but by spreading the load between the two ai apps seems to work well (so far). That being said, UT2 has a nice way of viewing AI at any airport both for departure and arrival using their real world flight plans at any time you wish. I looked at Acpulco and that airport just does not have alot of traffic. It showed only 2 or 3 arivals and the same for departures at any given time per hour. There are even times where there is nothing at all for spans of 1 or 2 hours. All these observations were made with 100% AI in Ultimate Traffic 2. So it looks like your low amount of AI on the ground at that location is just about right. I do wish we could easily add static aircraft at airports to simulate a more realistic environment for parked aircraft. SOme airports look like ghost towns in FSX.

make sure you have WOAI packages that go to that airport , there are probably more airlines that WOAI has that services that airport. Also make sure you are at that airport at a time where they have aircraft arriving and departing. you may be there at a time that is not too busy. you can check the airports web page for a listing of arrival/departure times to compare to FSX.
