December 16, 200916 yr Hi I have this problem too. But only when I use add-on sceneries as start up location it seems. (UTX Europe, FTX Coffs harbour etc. )If I use a standard FSX scenery as the first start up location the FMS will power up, also when I switch to a add-on scenery.I load the default trike first, then I switch to JS41. Is it a known problem that add-on scenery can make trouble for the FMS?OS: Win XP Pro with the latest updates.Regards Øyvind Frøyland

December 21, 200916 yr Hi RonI think I have found a solution for the FMS not powering up.It seems that this is a out of memory (OOM) problem. I solved it by editing the boot.ini file. How to find the boot.ini file see this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289022Add the following to the end of the OS boot line: /3GB /Userva=2560 EXAMPLE LINE EDIT:multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows XP Professsional" /fastdetect /3GB /Userva=2560 <---- add it here save and close the filerebootto set that back to default, simply remove the edit I found this tip at SimForums.com in this topic: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041 Hope this will solve the problem for you too and everyone else having it. December 21, 200916 yr this is a PMDG problem and they should solve it for usI would agree with you if many had this problem; however, it never occurs to most users and I have never run into it. There is something in your install that prevents the guage dll from working, and it may be a problem for several users.I do hope the solution is found, and I also hope that you would share it in the forum for others. I fixed it by copying the glassga font into windows font folder. I already had a copy of it but deleted it first and then copied it. It worked....for one flight. The FMS powered up no problem. Then, a day later, it doesn't turn on anymore. I tried to copy the font again but no luck.I think MANY of us are having this issue...Not all of us will take time to send messages on forums though...I hope PMDG comes up with a solutions to this. I owned the 747 and never any issues with it. We are use to more quality from PMDG. And while they are at it, it would really be nice if the FMS data could be saved with the flight...
December 23, 200916 yr Same problem here :( FMS totally dark ( not even the yellow rectangle). glassga.ttf is in place (windows\fonts). There is now difference whether I load the tutorial or after my default flight( with the C172 cold an dark).Additional question; in the FSX font folder are some fonts starting with J41..., should they also be located in windows\fonts?Otto ------------------------ Regards, Otto Schäfer

I copied all the fonts (J41...+glassga.ttf) using the menu in the windows fonts window. There is a "add new font" option in there (not sure what it is called exactly...my operating system is in french). I then reloaded FSX and it worked!!!! Although this time I did not load the default flight....Then another problem appeared....AHHHHHHHHHH! All the 2D panels were black. So I could not used them. I then decided to reload the default flight. That fix the problem of the 2D panels but now the FMS is down again....This problem is driving me nuts. I have installed many many add-on aircraft in the past and never had a single issue. Hope PMDG comes up with a fix. I have done more than enough troubleshooting with this aircraft. Since all my other addons works fine, I will not loose more time on this. Too bad, because it looked like a very fine aircraft. Wasted my money.Louis-Philippe

December 23, 200916 yr Just did another test....Can't say I'm not willing to cooperate! I did not do anything to fonts and loaded FSX. From the main opening menu, I choose to load the tutorial directly. Guess what...the FMS is working and the 2D panels are working. Just before that I tried loading the default flight with the Cessna and the FMS was not working...I will try to take off and do more testing.Louis-P
December 23, 200916 yr Another thing to try:Uninstall Acceleration (or FSX SP2, whatever you are using), reboot, then reinstall Acceleration/SP2.No idea why, but this did the trick for me. Hope it helps you guys, too.Regards,Bernhard Bernhard v. Meding
January 1, 201016 yr Hi!First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR!Running XP SP3 + FSX SP2.Fonts correctly installed and beginning at depp airport with default Cessna in cold&dark.Same problem reported here. Sometimes FMS turns on, most times does not.I hope devs could fix it asap.Kind regardsSchmid Flavio Schmid Win 7 Pro 64 MoBo Intel DP35DP CPU Intel Quad Core Q9550 RAM 8GB Kingston KVR800D2 GPU NVidia GTX275 - 968MB
January 2, 201016 yr No luck...It is down again. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. I do the same load sequence everytime (default flight with Cessna and then load the tutorial) and the results vary. So I doubt my config is the problem...If it was I would think the problem would be consistent. I run XPSP2 + FSXSP2. My OS is in french...don't think it matters but who knows? This is a very weird problem that I never experienced with any other product. :( Louis-Philippe
January 2, 201016 yr I can confirm that if you load TUTORIAL1 at KPHN - the aircraft is not in full cold&dark - the FMS works so it is not a font problem.Of course this is a way to not having the aircraft grounded but it takes a boring long time to move from an airport to another.RegardsSchmid Flavio Schmid Win 7 Pro 64 MoBo Intel DP35DP CPU Intel Quad Core Q9550 RAM 8GB Kingston KVR800D2 GPU NVidia GTX275 - 968MB
