  1. I believe I can answer this.In the (PMDG) J41 - which has no autothrottle at all - you are still exptected to manually set speed bugs on your airspeed indicator to show the V speeds (for landing: Vref, Vapp and some others). The reason for that is improved/immediate visibility of current vs. desired airspeed. So I believe in the NGX it's the same basic idea. Even though (or rather: especially because) you are not using A/T, you dial in the desired airspeed on the MCP, so that you get the magenta marker on your PFD showing you at a glance where you want your airspeed to be.Even though I do not actually KNOW this to be true, it seems to me like the most plausible explanation.Regards,
  2. About this weather import being possible or not:There is a rather nice (although nowhere close to the NGX) Embraer 175/195 addon out there that can import winds per waypoint into the FMC, via a "REQUEST" prompt on the corresponding FMC page. Also, if I understand that correctly, it imports the data directly from the FSX weather file. So there'd not even be a need for this feature to be "weather addon dependant".Actually, when the NGX was released, I was semi-surprised to see that it did NOT have this feature, which would have complemented (and still could do so) the advanced VNAV functionality perfectly. So my opinion on an FMC weather import is clear:+1!RegardsBernhard
  3. FCOM 1, NP.21.68 has the Flap Extension Schedule.Basically, you select Flaps 1 at the "UP" marker in the PFD speed tape, Flaps 5 at "1", Flaps 15 at "5" and your landing flaps (30 or 40) at "15".Apparently you never really use the "in between" flap settings (2, 10 or 25).By the way, FCOM 1, NP.21.46 has the Takeoff Flap Retraction Speed Schedule.
  4. Just trying to understand, when you say: , is this just about a graphical fix in the models, or does it acutally affect aircraft behavior (e.g. higher max roll rate resulting from higher aileron deflection angle)?
  5. Nice landing. Wouldn't mind being a passenger on that one.Compared to "by the books" procedure, it looks like you reduced thrust a little early, resulting in slightly low speed and high pitch attitude on touchdown. Still far from a tailstrike though, and somewhat better than my own recent attempts at manual landings...
  6. As far as I know, this is a matter of hazard reduction for the ground crew. They might be injured when touching the hot pitot tubes. So you want them (the tubes, not the ground crew) to be cold whenever the airplane is around people. After landing, you would switch pitot heat off when you have vacated the runway. That way, they have time to cool down during taxi to the gate. When leaving for your next leg, you would only switch pitot heat back on after pushback, when the ground crew is leaving. Regards,
  7. Another thing to try:Uninstall Acceleration (or FSX SP2, whatever you are using), reboot, then reinstall Acceleration/SP2.No idea why, but this did the trick for me. Hope it helps you guys, too.Regards,Bernhard
  8. This should be a good workaround for those of us who can't turn on the FMS when loading a cold&dark saved flight. Looking forward to SP1!Regards,Bernhard
  9. Short testing status update:Loaded the tutorial from a situation with a different default aircraft (Cessna): no change, FMS remains blank. After a FSX restart I created a flight with JS41 engines running: FMS works (as described before). Continuing from there I completed the shutdown procedure as per AOM and then saved that situation. After another FSX restart I loaded that situation and applied power to the aircraft: FMS didn't work.So I skipped the FMS initialization and finished the aircraft startup up to and including the taxi check. But still the FMS did not activate.Hope this helps to fix the bug... Only being able to either start cold&dark or use the FMS (but not both) kind of spoils this otherwise brilliant aircraft.Regards,Bernhard
  10. Seems like I have the same symptoms as Olli and Dean:I loaded the tutorial flight over a default situation (in this case: glider on KHPN runway), then followed the tutorial instructions up to FMS activation.Clicking on the ON button produces a click an button movement, but the FMS screen remains completely blank. No yellow blocks, nothing. All other displays work just fine. The overhead panel looks exactly like on page 20 of the Pilot's Tutorial PDF (without the arrows :( ).On the other hand, after a FSX restart, creating a flight with the JS41 with engines running, the FMS works perfectly. So it doesn't really seem to be a font problem.Unfortunately, changing from there to the tutorial gives me a CTD (not PMDG-related, FSX has a strong tendency to do that on my rig after a situation change), so i could not verify that the FMS works in the tutorial after that.FYI, some technical data that may or may not be related to the problem:- WinXP 32 (german), Athlon 64 X2 4200+, 2GB RAM, GeForce 8800GTS 640MB- FSX SP2 (german), no Acceleration- All fonts from FSX/fonts copied to Windows/fonts an rebooted after that- Using beige panel option (probably not related, but who knows)- JS41 NavData installed and verified in correct foldersWhat (minimum) requirements should be met in order to make the FMS work?- Electrical Power from BAT/GND/Engines?- Avionics Switches left/right/both ON?- anything else?Going to experiment a little more (loading from Cessna instead of glider, for example) and report the results.Regards,BernhardP.S.: Another very minor bug: The installer sends the tutorial files to the "Flight Simulator X Files" folder, even on a german system where it should be "Flight Simulator X-Dateien"
  11. Hi Chris, all these liveries are already available at AVSIM. Just do a search for "747 pmdg thai" in their FS2004 liveries section.Regards,Bernhard
  12. Hi Clive, two thoughts on your problem:1)Are you trying to activate the AP by clicking on the MCP button, or do you use a keyboard binding for that? If so, have you double-checked the binding? In the FS9 keyboard settings AND the PMDG keyboard settings?2)Your cockpit screenshot looks like you might be getting a "Not on intercept course" message from your FMC in that particular situation. Did anything like that happen? I am aware that you also tried simple heading hold situations without success, where this wouldn't be an issue. Simply trying to rule things out...Greets,Bernhard
  13. I found it in a post from Oct 22nd:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...&mesg_id=122153---quote rsrandazzo---When this item [747-400/400F for FSX] is made available, customers who purchased the PMDG 747-400 and/or 400F directly from PMDG will be elligble for a very nice price reduction that will take place automatically in the PMDG eCommerce system. This program will be available only to customers who purchased directly from PMDG and are active in our system, obviously.---unquote---I too hope that this announcement is still valid.Bad thing about databases: They never let you get away with anything ;-)Bernhard
