AS2012 import function to FCM (request)

Featured Replies

Hi,Dear PMDG, is it possible to get an import function from AS2012 to the FMC for weather (winds) forecasts? It would make life a lot easier and since in real life, pilots normally import this data via ACARS it would make it more realistic as well.....

That is a really good idea. I don't know if it is practical, or even possible, but I think it would be very nice to have.

EFB reads the AS weather from a text file. Guess it's not hard for PMDG to do the same...

than they need to do it for rex as well

I am pretty sure it is not possible for a 3rd party product to inject the winds information into a PMDG product, so this is not an ASE vs REX question.Perhaps someone who knows simconnect a lot better then I do can answer this: Is there a call in simconnect (or FSUIPC) that an application can use to request the weather data at a given position and altitude in FSX? If such a call existed, then the FMC could issue one (like an ACARS request) for each waypoint along the route at planned cruise altitude and at +-3,000 ft. It could then offer much more powerful routing suggestions.

I don't know. You could have it reference a certain file when you request the winds from the 737 MCDU. That is pretty much exactly what I do when I enter the company route and it pulls up the one I created from FSBuild. In fact FSBuild references the wind file from AS2012 when I create my flight plans. Whether they want to do it or not is another question but it should be possible.

Well, as stated, I don't know if PMDG can actually do that (technically) but as the information is available as a text file, I actually don't see why not. But this question would have to be answered by a PMDG Staff... who knows what he is talking about..... because I don't have any idea if or if not one would need simconnect or FSUIPC in this regard. And if its possible for AS2012 then why not from REX......However, its only a request which I think would make life for us SimPilots a lot easier.I don't think PMDG is obliged to actually provide this functionality, neither for AS2012 or REX, but I absolutely object that one be held back just because the other one is not possible for what ever reasons......regards

I have plenty of add-ons that can read Active Sky's weather and use it on a per leg basis. FSFK, Topcat, EFB, FSBuild. I however have never seen such compatibility with REX, so it may very well not be possible. It would be nice for such a thing to be included someday, but not neccessary, that is for sure.

Still, it would be nice if one only needs to go the the Legs Page and tell it to import from AS2012.... all data there including TO/RW and Dest. Weather..... no more entering Leg by Leg, Take Off or Landing RW winds...I guess Fuel and Time prediction would also benefit of such a function.regards

About this weather import being possible or not:There is a rather nice (although nowhere close to the NGX) Embraer 175/195 addon out there that can import winds per waypoint into the FMC, via a "REQUEST" prompt on the corresponding FMC page. Also, if I understand that correctly, it imports the data directly from the FSX weather file. So there'd not even be a need for this feature to be "weather addon dependant".Actually, when the NGX was released, I was semi-surprised to see that it did NOT have this feature, which would have complemented (and still could do so) the advanced VNAV functionality perfectly. So my opinion on an FMC weather import is clear:+1!RegardsBernhard

I guess a lot of people would be interested in this function, would be nice if we could get some replay from PMDG about the possibility of implementation....regards
