FS2004's laggy VC gauges!

Featured Replies

The thing I hate most about FS9 is the laggy gauges in the virtual cockpit. For smaller and less complex models, the frame rate on the gauges is fine, but on more complex aircraft such as the PMDG 737 and the LDS 767, the frame rates are pretty bad. Would there be any possible way to fix this or speed them up? What makes them so laggy? Thanks

Need more info. What are your computer specs? what other add-ons are you running?

The bottom line is No.Sorry to be so blunt, but I don't want people wasting their time. The VC gauges are slow in FS9. Good programming of the gauges and an overall well performing system can help somewhat, but FS9 is inherently lacking in the way the gauges are displayed in the VC. It is a "feature".FSX handles VC gauges much better. FS9 addon planes with gauges modelled in 3D have smooth displays, but 3D displays are to my knowledge used only in two-three addon GA planes, such as the Realair Marchetti.

Well I guess gauge smoothness is subjective....on my PMDG 737, gauges appear quite smooth. Just incase you didn't know, you can change the refresh rate on the gauges in the PMDG menu.

Jet 1 is right , the only real option for FS9 is to beef up your hardware.Regards.Ernie.

Never had much problems with this, honestly... to me it always appeared quite okay. But then again, I never really seemed to have had a talent for noticing this kind of things excepot when it gets really bad.

I'd say Red 1 is on the right track. Why don't we get his system info and then maybe we can jump to a "beef up your hardware" conclusion.Anyway, as for the Level-D 76', there's no option to adjust gauge refresh rate, but I find it's refresh rate is exceptional anyway. Some info on your system would be more than helpful.

True, but again, no matter how powerful your system is, the bottom line is you can never get the refresh rate of VC gauges to be as good as in the 2D panel.Refresh rate is a hard figure, but smoothness is a subjective thing. It may well be that red1 has a problem with overall performance though.I agree with what you say about Level-D. I find the VC gauge refresh sufficient for sim use, even though its not even close to 2D refresh rate let alone the real thing. Which sort of proves what I said about smoothness being a subjective quality :(

except as noted - 3d xml VC guages, which update at whatever yr actual framerate is and are every bit as smooth as 2D panels. All Realair's models use these guages (The Decathlon/Scout/Citabria, SF260, and the Spitfire). As well, the freeware Christen Eagle II uses them. Also, Milton Shupe has recently released a couple of planes that feature them. But yes, they are best suited to the GA planes.

Another GA plane in FS9 with amazingly smooth and lifelike gauge refresh rates is the Sibwings SAAB Safir. Shame it's a little under-equipped in the avionics department for true IFR flight.

My system specs are:Windows 7 32-bitNVIDEA GeForce 8600GTSIntel Q6600 Quad [2.40GHz]3GB RAMDirectX 11I'm getting 35fps (locked at 35) at CanUK's payware CYYC in the PMDG 737. Everything is smooth EXCEPT for the VC gauges.I was just thinking, since the gauges in FSX are so smooth, maybe there would be a way to modify or make some sort of program for FS9 that would make the VC gauges smoother. Maybe a way in how the gauges are programmed?Whatever, it was worth asking.

Your specs are not a problem.Unfortunately, if there was a way to expand these limitations of FS9, it would have been done by now.

If anything, you are very limited by your graphics card. Doesn't really make sense to have a nice fast quad core yet have a graphics card not designed for 3D gaming. Besides that, have you checked your PMDG gauge refresh settings as suggested?

Red, I appreciate you are trying to help the guy and no offense but seriously, the graphics card has ZERO to do with the issue of vc gauges. And honestly, who can say that maxing the old pmdg 737 gauge refresh slider has ANY noticeable effect in the VC? I mean really honestly?

As JET 1 said, gauge refresh rate option in PMDG 737, doesn't work at all. I mean, you can put slider on 5, and you can put slider on 100, you got same effect. So don't bother with performance tunning, at least on 737 by PMDG.

My Specification: I CAN RUN FSX IN MAX SETTINGS....i don't care about dell, bell, amd, intel, 60000 wats power supply or alien made graphic card....
