December 7, 200916 yr I know this has been asked almost every day but i am tired of 8 to 15FPS at add on airports and really need something better.Running FS9 with UK Airports, PMDG737,Ultimate Terrain and UK Mesh.(Hoping to add Active Sky add Squawkbox)My computer specs.Dell Dimension 5150Pentium
December 7, 200916 yr That computer would offer an improvement, but you can do much better. Do you have an option of building your own system? It's not very hard and there are many many tutorials and good people here to walk you through it. To compare, my system (specs below) can handle pretty much anything at 60fps(locked)...except when flying somethign like a PMDG is overcast with 5 cloud layers using HD clouds, in a busy add-on airport..fps may drop to 25ish on the ground. I built my system over a year ago for 1000...you can probably build something similar or better now for probably alittle more then half that. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |

I did once change a graphics card and was stressed out!!!William
December 7, 200916 yr Putting together a PC requires zero knowledge or aptitude. We can tell you precisely what to buy, as long as you can put everything in properly and turn a screw driver you'll do fine.

I have a friend who could help me in the build if I get stuck. Eagerly awaiting your reply so that I can start pricing around.Bill
December 8, 200916 yr Putting together a PC requires zero knowledge or aptitude I would disagree with this statement 100%. You need a certain amount of knowledge and a whole heap of aptitude to build a PC. Imagine spending over $500 on parts and you screw it all up because you are totally hamfisted.
December 8, 200916 yr Author Thanks to everyone who has replied. All advice is much appreciated. What I'm really after is advice on system specs regardless of whether or not I home build, have it built by a friend or buy ready made. Should it be i5 or i7, which motherboard, which graphics card which/size of PSU etc.?I want to run FS9 smoothly with high settings, add on scenery, UK Airports,PMDG 737, WOAI, AS6.5 Squawkbox, FE, Ultimate Terrain. I will be networking my existing Dell to run AS6.5 and SQWBoxWilliam

Well, as a PC technician since the beginning of this decade, I will say that there are people out there who shouldn't even dream of putting together a PC, but these are the kind of people one wonders how they are even alive. I assume anyone on this forum is not one of those. If you're smart enough to have found this place, you can assemble a PC. It's like putting together a jigsaw puzzle. With 10 pieces.

So, you would be happy for someone with no knowledge or aptitude to take your parts and build you a PC. No, thought not.Next time, don't be so sanctimonious with your replies. We are not all computer geniuses like you!

We are not all computer geniuses like you!I never said "go find someone who doesn't know anything and have them put together a PC for you". Thanks for putting words into my mouth and trying to force a pointless argument though, really constructive.I was simply trying to allay the OP's fears and convey the idea that it's not at all difficult to assemble a PC, regardless of one's experience or ability. If you trust yourself to turn a screw driver and assemble a 10 piece jigsaw puzzle, you can easily assemble a PC. And if you run into problems, that's what we're here for!
