I think that a reasonably price add-on that introduced regional accents with many more different voices into the mix would be very successful.Stephen
December 8, 200916 yr Hi Dylan,Not that I know of yet. I think that a reasonably price add-on that introduced regional accents with many more different voices into the mix would be very successful.StephenAerosoft/OnCourse Software's ProFlight Emulator is my favorite and has many different regional voices. If you are over France, your ATC will have a French accent, likewise with Italy, etc.You can also choose the region for the pilot and co-pilot. You can even have several American-Southern Accents to choose from. Robert Yunque PilotEdge Ratings = CAT-11 (2016-09-13) I-11 (2016-10-23) V-3 (2016-08-01)
December 8, 200916 yr The reson no one has bothered to develop addon voice pack for fsx atc is cause, many folks prefer to use addon atc that comes with its own voice pack. You might want to consider getting addon atc, its the only way you gona effect improvemnet in atc voice.if atc voice quality and regional accents is your main issue, rather than details of how well atc functions, Then i recomend pro flight emulator fsx atc addon, got almost an endless set of atc voice pack , plus extra voice sets you can purchae seperatly.I use Radar Contact ATC, very excellent ATC program, but the voice pack is very poor, radar contact voice pack is not even half as good as the defualt fsx atc voice pack.If you looking to improve and expand on atc voice , then pro flight emulator is the thing for you. Its got a bit of learning curve though, but no more than usual
December 8, 200916 yr I use Radar Contact ATC, very excellent ATC program, but the voice pack is very poor, radar contact voice pack is not even half as good as the defualt fsx atc voice pack.Indeed. That's why I didn't buy it yet. I really like everything I read, saw and heard about Radar Contact except the voices which are terrible... or at least worse than default. That's the reason I always buy something else. Radar Contact is at the top of my wishlist but every time something else wins the day... last week I bought GEX Europe instead. How do owners of RC feel about voices? Do you get used to it? December 8, 200916 yr Hello, you get used to the RC-voices very quickly. The voices were also my biggest concern about RC but it was really an unnecessary concern. The RC-voices are a bit worser than MS-voices but they give me absolute no problem during hearing them. In the RC-forum here in AVSIM there is a link to a Meatwater voicepack. He has worked on that voices, giving them a more reality-base. And with these new voices you will be really happy with RC. But just one thing: the current version of RC is only usable for IFR-flights and not for VFR-flights.Bernhard
December 8, 200916 yr Author Thanks all for the feedback! I might give ProFlight Emulator and RC a try. Is there setup that needs to be done before each flight in those programs, or is it able to make global changes so I can just set up my flights in FSX (as I do now)?
December 8, 200916 yr SDK experts can correct me if I am wrong, but I remember from talking with ACES that you could use the SDK to make your own custom voice files. The problem is that you will have to have your voice talent read somewhere on the order of 300,000 separate entries, each of which needs to be engineered to flight sim specifications. When sim ATC was first developed, ACES did not fully realize the scope of how MSFS would develop, nor how future iterations would work. After that first monumental effort, the effort of making major changes to ATC proved to be too much. Since then, there have been interesting developments in voice technology. One is the synthetic voice, like the AT&T voices. These are expensive, but they sound fairly realistic. Another development is the concatenated voice, such as like you would find in EditVoicePack. In this situation, every recorded ATC syllable is measured and given a value. By way of example, you could take the WEST from "Cleared to take off rwy XXX heading WEST" and the JET from "Traffic is a LearJET, eleven o'clock", cut them out of their phrases, and make a callsign for WESTJET. The easiest (!) way to get regional accents and new voices into FSX is to avoid the ATC altogether. Radar Contact with voices, ProFlight, & VoxATC come to mind for me right now.Jeff ShylukSenior Staff ReviewerAVSIM
