another CH vs. Saitek thread

So, I probably can't go wrong with either yoke, and they're about the same price. I know people have had issues with both, and others have loved both, so I guess I'm wondering if anyone has very strong feelings, or has a sense of the pros and cons of each.thx!edit: I'm on Win 7 x64 with GEX, UTX, REX, and a few CS planes, if that's important.

I've had the CH yoke for many years, but I had to tear it apart and rebuild it to make it usable. I have not used the Saitek yoke, but will buy it if I have to get another.

My experience is the CH is in the basement and the Saitek is on my desk.

You need to remove the first forward slash / and then your banner should show up.

I had both and recently went back to the CH. The elevator on the saitek is just too sticky for my liking. Though I do miss all the buttons of the Saitek and the hat switch being on the left horn.

Interesting, the exact complaint I have with the CH. I guess the only cure is to use a joystick.

The Saitek I had (their latest model) was horrible. What a piece of junk.I went ahead and returned it to Newegg and picked up a CH Eclipse for another place. The Eclipse has so far greatly surpassed the Saitek offering in every single category. Here is my original post I made on the CH Forums to help people out with the same question:Hello all,I recently posted a thread here asking about the differences between the Pro Yoke by Saitek and the CH Eclipse. I have used and enjoy CH products but wanted to try something different. I figured this thread might be helpful to those visiting this forum with hopes of finding information regarding both of these products. I have not owned a CH Eclipse, but I have owned a Saitek Pro Flight Yoke. If you are like me, you are a dedicated flightsimmer. You probably upgrade your machine every year to 2 years or so with the latest and greatest hardware with hopes of bringing your sim experience that "1 step closer to reality". Well, if you are into simulators that mimic civilian (for the most part) flight, than you are probably in the market for a Yoke. Your $80 PMDG MD-11 can look/act and require close to all of the real bird's button pushing, but if you fly it with a keyboard than you are not doing yourself many favors. You also look silly. Stop it. :( Anyways, I went with the Saitek over the CH. Why? I have no idea. Long story short, I should have listened to my instincts and stuck with CH.Here is a list of things I noticed with the Saitek that may help potential customers. Needless to say, I will be ordering an Eclipse. My list of Saitek Pro Yoke issues (for anybody who is considering one):1. The centering was offset to the right and required me to delete an entry in my registry and recalibrate the yoke...............EVERY TIME I RESTARTED MY COMPUTER. I am not the only one with this issue either. I have read a few user reviews here and there where other users have reported the same issue. 2. The elevator movement was NOT smooth. Despite popular belief, the whole "it has a metal shaft for the utmost in smoothness", gimmick is just that...a gimmick (at least in my experience). It actually seemed like it needed to be sanded or something along those lines. It also seemed to be "sticky". 3. Solid feel. The actual weight of the unit is very very light and the whole setup just seemed shoddy for some reason. It is tough for me to really explain it...it just didn't seem "right". Maybe this is a culmination of the experiences I have had with this product. 4. The throttle quadrant, while nice that it is seperate, seemed poorly made. The throttle lever had hardly any catch when it got down to the detent at the bottom (the area before passing into the reverser zone).4b. The buttons located below the levers on the throttle quadrant were a mixed bag. 2 of them had a good, solid, "click" when engaged, the other was actually loosey-goosey in the housing.5. Detents for elevator and aileron. This too is a mixed bag. In one way it was nice to have them, in the other sense it felt unrealistic and passing through the detent could potentially cause a "jump" in the elevator movement.6. The profiler software could potentially bork your already borked yoke (just in case I was not unsatisfied enough).7. The clamping system included 1 clamp and "screw thingy" per unit (one for the yoke and then one for the throttle quadrant). Each plastic screw-clamp had a suctioncup-like attachment the end-user places on the end. Once screwed on and clamped down, when it came time to remove, I had to remove the suctioncup-like thing with a screwdriver. That is my list of issues I found the first night I tried my Saitek Pro Flight Yoke. The next day I put in my RMA for a refund at Newegg. Perhaps I just got a bad unit. However, this is not the first time I have had issues with Saitek. Back in the day, my Saitek sticks used to go out on me about every 5 or so months. I was hoping quality control had improved since then, but it appears either, A: It hasn't, or B: I happen to get the worst Yoke made at the Saitek factory. Your call. Either way, I should have stuck with CH. I still own a CH Fighterstick USB with CH Pro Throttle and Pro Pedals. Have no had one issue since I purchased them some years back. That amount of time includes endless sim time, 3 moves, and my 8 month old son (who is now 19 months old at the writing of this post on Avsim) nawing on the top of the Stick. CH products just work. Period. I hope this thread and my experiences help somebody out there who is also in a similar "which Yoke do I choose" predicament.---------------------------Since then, I picked up the CH Eclipse, and WOW...what difference. It is as smooth as butter. The difference in feel is phenomenal. No stickyness, no detent wierdness, no flimsy buttons, no having to delete registry entries and recalibrate each time I restart my computer. Like I said before, the CH offering just worked. No fuss.

well, I ended up getting the Saitek. the yoke seems OK, but the throttle quadrant isn't working, either in their test software or FSX. the green light is on, but none of the buttons or levers work.the first time i used the yoke, it kept banking the plane to the left. the second time seemed OK (I did move it to a new USB port).the drivers for the throttle itself won't install, as it doesn't recognize that the throttle is attached.

well, it looks like one of the pins in the ps/2 connector was bent - fixed it, and the throttle quad seems to be working OK.

Now I'm confused. I know that the throttle quad is USB-connected. Are you connecting it to a PS/2 port with an adapter?

The TQ that comes as a unit with the yoke connects to the yoke base per PS/2 port. The base also has 2 USB connectors so that if you purchase a second Saitek TQ (USB) it can be connected as well as Saitek pedals (USB). I had both both of my TQ's connected into the base but the USB port does not supply power to the USB TQ now and I don't know why, so I connected it directly to the computer via USB. Overall I'm pleased with them as I also have a CH TQ connected (to the computer not the Saitek yoke). So I have the CH TQ on my left and the 2 Saitek TQ's on my right and that covers all my aircraft configurations.I have to admit that I haven't tested out the most current CH yoke, although I really don't like the three levers on the yoke base. I do like the feel of the Saitek yoke. I've not had any problems with it except the lack of power to one of the USB ports. Final decison must be yours, so test them both out.Jim D.

That banking problem will most likely return. It is a common problem with the Saitek Yoke. If it does return, try unplugging the yoke and plugging it in again. That should fix it long enough for a session in FSX.

Weird how some people are reporting some of these problems. I have had my Saitek yoke and 2nd TQ ever since they came out. Hands down it is th best controllers I have had. Centering it PERFECT in every way. I check it through FSUIPC. I pull my elevator back and fsuioc registers about -16343 and let it return to neutral and it goes to 0 EVERY time. not even 00001. I mean dead 0. The new software is very easy to use and program. The smoothness of the controller is one of the best thing. I found CH to be sticky on the elevator movement. There was only one problem I ever had with the saitek. In the beginning when I changed my bank angle it also changed the view to outside. I haven;t had this problem since the beginning so I think it must have been resolved with updated drivers.

so the Saitek seems to be working ok...the elevators are definitely sticky, which is unfortunate, but I'm not sure the CH would be much better. In terms of calibrating it, I only have the freeware version of FSUIPC..do I need the registered version? Should I get that, or is it OK to calibrate it through FSX?
