Scenery

Featured Replies

For some inexplicable reason,I seem to be getting these 2-3 large white squares in the skies at an altitude above what I fly at which is generally around 35k.I have no idea how or where these square patterns have come from.I run 2 GPUs and both have the very latest NVidia drivers,so I know it is not a driver issue.I do run a number of add-on sceneries but these have never caused these square patterns to dislay in the past so I don't think they have anything to do with it.Any ideas/tips appreciatedRICK

Hi,A screen shot of the issue will be very helpful!

Hi JimOoops! As I have never uploaded a screenshot,I ain't sure how this is done,so if you can advise,I'll include the requested screen shot.I have attached it with this reply, but am not sure if that is the way to show a screenshot.ThanksRICK

It appears as though you are either missing a cloud texture or you had some sort of scenery that put in clouds (thermals scenery?) and that texture has been lost.Have you installed any new cloud texture sets?Have you installed any sceneries that use thermals and mark them with clouds?

Thank you for such a quick repsonse. No,I have not installed any sceneries with thermals in it,not as far as I could remember as most of my scenery files are the ones available in AVSIM's Library.Additionally,I have only re-installed the same sceneries that I used to have before, such as Aerosoft's EDDF,EGLL,etc, and these never presented me with these weird shapes.I'm baffled.Last scenery I installed was a UK2000 Scnery's free EGPF(Glasgow),but these squares were there before that as I first noticed them on a South American area flight from SLLP to MKJP.

Hi,Are you just using default sky and cloud textures?

Hi,Are you just using default sky and cloud textures?
Hi JimYes,if by default you mean the sky and textures provided by FS9

You might think about downloading and installing - hde_1.0.zip - available here on AVSIM. If your problem is indeed a missing or corrupt cloud texture this will fix/replace it. If it happens that this is not your problem it will still provide a nice improvement. I suggest that if possible make a copy (backup) of your Fs texture folder first, just to be cautious.Hope this helps and best regards,Mel

Thank you Mel.Tried to download that file.Unfortunately, due to the hacking attack on AVSIM last year, this is one of the files that has yet to be restored.Typical of my luck! Will try later. Thanks all the same.RICK

Unfortunately, despite downloading the above and installimg it in FS9,it has not done the trick. In fact it has got worse.Looks like a complete FS9 re-install now.

I had this "square's" problem but on the ground not the sky. By chance, after hours of head scratching I turned "ground casts shadows" off, and all was back to normal. I know your problem is in a different area but maybe the computer/program doesn't know the difference. Just a million to one outside chance !

Thank you Echofox for that suggestion.Unfortunately,it does not work.Still have the same square clouds issue.

I wonder if you have a corrupted contrail effect, or one that is missing a texture. You can open effect files with Notepad and see what *.bmp files they use.regards,Joe
