Anti Ice

Featured Replies

In the MD do the anti ice protection operate automatically or do I need to click them on. I ran into an icing problem in FS9 usin REX2.0 and I started losing altitude. So I manually placed all anti ice prtection and but I wasnt sure if this was really necessary. I imagine it was due to loss of altitude.ThanksAndrew DeLaney

Company policies vary, but it is always a good idea to use ice protection when visible moisture is present and the temps are +5C to -10C or icing is visible.

Not automatic...You need to operate the switches manually on the overhead panel above the F/O, in cases of visible moisture and temp range as Dan suggested...Don't forget the screen anti-icing too...If you have the JS41 in FSX, check out icing and effect of anti-icing there...Andrew

Turn the ignition override (OVRD ON) when using anti-ice by the way. It's next to the ignition B button and marked OVRD with a cicrle around it above the button. Lower left of the overhead panel.

Why? In the sense that I don't know why and would like to learn, not that I don't agree with you :(

This is for GE powered aircraft, perhaps someone can give some info on the PW'sGE powered aircraft must haveEngine ignition selected to OVRDON while Anti Ice is onGE powered aircraft must haveENG IGN OVRD selected on,ECON switch selected off, andENG, WING and TAIL Anti Iceswitches selected on prior to thrustreduction for the descent if icingconditions are anticipated during thedescent.Regardless of whether or not an ICEDETECTED alert is displayed, antiice must be selected on if icingconditions are encountered duringthe descent with GE engines.Regards

Ignition Override switch is turned on to give power to both ignition systems simultaneously along with the engine start switches to allow starter assissted in-flight starts in case of an engine failure. You would also turn on the ignition override when entering areas of severe turbulence, heavy rain, or hail.Kevin W.

also it is called ANTI ice, not DE-ICE. So it is supposed to be turned on before entering icing conditions Sometimes addon weather adds unrealistic icing conditions that even the anti icing systems can't fix. The registered version of fsuipc fixes thisAlex
