Look for this at Flightsim.comName: gaubmp2.zip Size: 144,202 Date: 12-29-1999 Downloads: 6,797 gaubmp2.gif FS98/CFS/FS2000 GAU To BMP Utility. Extracts bitmaps from gauge files and reinserts them after repainting. Requires Visual Basic 5.0 drivers (SP3 version). By Chuck Dome. Public domain.I have used it in the past with good results.
Unfortunately it doesn't work past FS2000. If you're working with FS9 and FSX I'm afraid you're out of luck.-Dai
Works just fine for me with FS9 gauges - I just used it a few minutes ago.
Interesting! It failed for me the few times I tried it.-Dai
You do have to follow the "prompts" .... Basically you put the gauge in question in the same folder as the exe file and then after the program opens you select the gauge name. That will list the number of bitmaps there are in the gauge and allow you to select and "make" a copy of any of them for editing. After editing you can then reinsert the bitmap(s) back into the gauge file. Most of the prompts are at the top of the screen and are pretty self explanitory.
Thanks for the advice. In the meantime I have come across a programe called "FS Panel Studio" hereIt seems quite expensive but looks very good.Vololiberista
One of the best investments (if not the best) you can make if you plan to do much work with panels. :( :( :(

Expensive? I consider it the best $25 I've ever spent! (actually, when I bought it for FS2002 is was only $20!)The author has never charged for updates either, something that is practically unheard of in the software industry. :(

Tis good stuff, I finally upgraded mine. ( was still in a 98/00 version yet! ) I had the probs with added .cfg entries with a 5th + attribute. This program & FSNAV was worth it & then some. As for the original post I use GAUBMP2.EXE, it still works, for many, not all, but most. Caveat - if you use it, IT IS FOR YOUR USE ONLY- just for artistic preferences. Upload any thing modified and the hounds (me too) will put a kabosh to it. Roman
