February 3, 201016 yr I thought I'd asked this already but I guess not. Until about a week ago I was using FS2004 ATC. Upon arrival GROUND would tell you which gate to go to and it would be empty so you could park there. Now I'm using RC4 v2.13 ( the latest). There is a place that you can input the gate number on you destination airport before you leave your departing airport, BUT it may or may NOT be empty. How do you get around this problem when using RD4? In real life does the pilot know what gate he is going to at his arrival airport , BEFORE he starts his flight? IN RC4 if you don't input a gate at the arrival airport it say, "Taxi to the ramp". Where the heck is the ramp, which ramp? To make it as real as possible using RC4 how do you do it? Thanks jerrycwo4

Thanks jerrycwo4I can only speak for real world long haul and freight ops but 99% of the time you will get confirmation of your gate/ramp via ACARS, if that is not an option you contact operations. Your company rents the gate/ramp so you should know before you depart however a number of reasons could cause a last minute change. Regards Rob Prest
February 3, 201016 yr Jerry,Look for something called "Gatekeeper". It's a utility which allows you to 'reserve' a gate of your choice at your destination. I've used it in conjunction with RC4. In RC4, you can key in the gate number that you reserved so that RC4 will instruct you to taxi to your specific gate.
February 4, 201016 yr In real life does the pilot know what gate he is going to at his arrival airport , BEFORE he starts his flight?Usually we contact Ops (via radio or ACARS) before our arrival (usually during early descent) and that way we get informed of our gate, our next flight (or if we can go home), ETD for the next flight and aircraft register if we have to change a/c.Best regards Ed OcampoStaff ReviewerAVSIM Online[email protected]Fly DC Jets
February 4, 201016 yr FYI:RC latest released version is 4.3.0.3845. If you need a link e-mail jd as noted in the RC forum here on AVSIM.Some users reserve a gate at their destination airport by setting the gate parking radius too small for AI. They use AFCAD or another editor to change the scenery. Depending on the scenery AFCAD may not be appropriate where the scenery parking properties were created with another application. If you decide to do this be sure to run from within RC the scenery database rebuild utility. The users input this reserved gate on the controller tab and RC will command you to park there. -------------snip---------------Now I'm using RC4 v2.13 ( the latest).
February 4, 201016 yr In real life both the pilots and the flight attendants know the arrival gate. As a matter of fact, the arrival gate is usually also published on the website if it has flight information available.Pilots get this information from Dispatch and / or the gate agent. Flight attendants get this info from the gate agent. Of course ops will send gate change info via ACARS if this changes. At COA we always checked in with OPS when in range for any special requests and any gate or connection issues.
February 4, 201016 yr With PFE you can reserve one gate at any airport in advance to which ground control will lead you upon arrival.Wolfgang

February 4, 201016 yr Yes, by setting the gate parking radius too small for AI as already mentioned.EricUmm no, nothing like that at all. It is by reserving it within PFE... So before I leave TLV for EWR I already know I am going to be assigned Gate C126 without me having to do or request anything when I land. As I am setting up my flight I can "reserve" a gate at any airport that I will be assigned upon arrival. It is pretty slick...-Paul Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk

Thanks jerrycwo4Jerry,The tutorial by David "Opa" Marshall "Creating VIP Parking For Commercial Airliners-an illustrated guide" available here in the library is most useful. Follow his instructins and you will be directed to your gate by ATC. Give it a try. Works very well for me.Don
