February 6, 201016 yr Author There are a couple of times when a fast load is more than welcome.1. developing an addon where frequent reloads of the sim are needed to test something2. after a CTD, otherwise the joystick could fly through the window :(Well stated......these are the reasons why I wrote the first post, although #2 is probably more true. I have placed the local glass installer's son through college since I have had the sim!gwillmot
February 24, 201016 yr GuysI can say this with quite a bit of confidence - like others said before, longer initial load times (up to the opening screen) are in direct relation to the number of aircraft in the Aircraft folder. Toss your 100 WOAI folders in a temporary folder and you'll see the difference.Loading time from opening screen to the flight itself, mostly related to scenery complexity and most of all, amount and size of addon scenery in the area.Period. Really. No tweak or cfg tricks to try :(HiJust want to re-open this for a little clarification of some points regarding the time taken to reach the opening screen:1. Am I correct in assuming it is the NUMBER of aircraft and not the SIZE of the aircraft folders that counts? (ie. should I concentrate on moving large folders out rather than large numbers of aircraft?)2. Is it ok to keep the deactivated aircraft / hanger folder inside the fs9 aircraft folder in terms of the affect on start up time?I have created a hanger folder inside the fs9 aircraft folder for my deactivated aircraft and it seems to be helping load time, but I just wondered if I was correct with the above assumptions. Thanks for any help or confirmation of these points!Bil
February 24, 201016 yr If you fly on IVAO, there may be nearly 1000 MTLs in your FS installation. So, one other thing to try is this (note: I'm on XP Pro, and I'm not sure of the exact path for Vista and WIN7 users, but you can figure it out):Start > All Programs > IVAO > IVAP > IVAP - MTL Hide AircraftAfter selecting this there will be a pause and then a message will appear that the operation has completed. When you next boot FS, you may not notice any significant time savings, but the speed of all subsequent boots, even after restarting your rig, should improve a lot. This also reduces the amount of time it takes for your available a/c to appear in the Create a Flight window when you select "Choose an Aircraft". And, this doesn't in any way interfere with the available MTLs in your IVAO Flight Plan window. On my system the time savings were dramatic. Thanks to my bud "AC" for this tip.Good luck, and YMMV.- Jev - Jev McKee, AVSIM member since 2006. February 24, 201016 yr Hey what's this talk about 'old' rigs being slow?I have well over 200 WOAI packages and several others along with many complex aircraft and scenery and my fs9 boots up in 5 minutes. And thats on a Pentium 4 2.53Ghz 1GB RAM XP Pro x83 Nvidia G6800 Extreme. Runs fs9 like a charm :(AbsolutelyMy old creaky box specs..P4 2.8. One (yes that's One)gb ram.Nvidea6600 Gcard.More aircraft than you could shake a prop at.and all sorts of other bits and pieces.Startup about four to five minutes.and to echo aboveRuns fs9 like a charm :(
February 24, 201016 yr It's good to see somebody else out there running the P4's, nVidia 6000 series, and just a handful of RAM!However I will admit I am getting a new system soon and abandoning this one... its the hard drive that killed this one.
