Stranex, if you could test the following, I'd be happy:Make sure vsync is on and lock the frames to 30. Does it seem as smooth as when set to 60?I (and lots of others) get bad stutters when locking at anything other than 60.It's a strange phenomenon, because when flying straight (and locked at 30 fps) it looks smooth, but when banking and turning those horrible stutters appear.
Just had a chance to try this and can confirm that when;Nhancer 2.5.7 VSync setNVidia 185 driversFrames locked to ANYTHING other than 60FS9Win7 64DX11I do indeed get stuttering when banking or turning. Set at 60 and as per NickN settings in Nhancer it flies smooth as silk........if only someone could tell me how to get dynamic scenery to "paint" a little ealier instead of when I'm right on top of it (1/4nm)?Could the stuttering at anything other than 60 be a DX11 issue? Not seen much here regarding DX11?Tomorrow, I may try rolling back to DX9 and testing and also testing with more up to date NVidia drivers

Ok, another afternoon of research and think I have answered at least one of my questions....Am I right to think that FS9 only ever uses DX9 no matter what Graphics Card and DX version I have loaded? (Win7 installs DX11 but I beleive by updating it as per Nicks instructions the later versions are also available?)As for my other queries.......Can anyone (neumanix?) hazard a guess as to why we are getting stutters at anything other than "locked 60" when we have VSync enabled? Is it a driver issue, Nhancer issue or FS9 issue and is there anything that can be done to overcome it?I am still battling my way through the fs9.cfg settings and hope (?) that by copying Nicks settings for FSX and then tweaking I am doing the right thing? I'm not able to find any specific FS9 settings online for either fs9.cfg or Nhancer?I'm finding I still get slight shimmering of trees and 3D buildings even though the sim runs very smooth....is this normal for FS9? Is there anyway to disable the 3D buildings in particular or would they be removed by using some add on software? On the same point, which "must have" add ons do you all recommend for scenery, better 3D buildings etc? There seem like so many (and even more acronyms!).......it's a minefield for somebody just starting out! Thanks in advance for any pointers/advice

Hello,

You are half right :)The minimum requirement (when FS2004 was released) for DirectX was DirectX 7.0 and so .. also graphic cards able to run under this API.Nonetheless .. this requirement change if you use modern graphic card and drivers for ditto. So .. it's mainly a matter of what kind of graphic card you use ..Also .. basicaly .. FS2004 use the API from DirectX 7 (Application Programming Interface)Remind .. latests DirectX versions (9) are compatible with the formers ... ( some limitations .. OS or hardware)Good advice is to avoid a downgrade of DirectXRegards.bye.gifGus.

As for add-ons, I would highly recommend Ground environment pro, Changes the sim two fold, And is good for the whole world. I also here REX is a good sky add-on, although have never tried it. And for weather go with active sky, very good program. Actually come to think about it i think rex might have a real world weather built into it, but someone can correct me on that.So with the add-ons mentioned above you have a good looking ground scenery, a good looking sky, and good weather engine all for the entire globe. However they are all payware add-ons.After a while you might want to get some terrain mesh, fsgenesis is a good place to start, but in the begining i would go with the three mentioned above before adding terrain mesh, but that is just my opinion.P.S Check out real environment pro here at avsim, it is a freeware program and it is a good one, also if you go here: http://walhalla.mine.nu/fs2004.php There are tons of freeware sceneries for individual airports, in diffrent countries, very good site for anyone looking to beef up their stock airports.thats a startr anyways, build on from there :( Sometimes there is so much it is mind boggling. Oh ya, forgot to mention check out World of AI if you havent already.

Thanks guys, I will take a look at Real Environment Pro here and see if it makes much difference to the overall "feel" of the simTBH After my initial optimism of getting 125fps, I'm now left feeling slightly deflated at not being able to get the sim looking and performing as I'd like despite all the good tips/tweaks I've read up on. Although the sim is super smooth, I hate the way some buildings pop up 2-3nm away whilst others are present in the far distance. I know this is probably due to system requirement not allowing it all to be drawn in advance but hoped it may be better. I'm also dissapointed that I still get a very slight shimmering effect in the medium kind of range (5-15nm) which effects buildings and roads. I have AF set 16 and AA to 8S Combined but I'm starting to think I'll never get rid of it?Hopefully adding some of the aforementioned will assist with some of my concerns.....getting a mates copy of FSX in a few days time so will be able to compare the overall exeprience with thatAnd I'm STILL unsure as to why when setting VSync I have to also lock at 60fps to get rid of stuttering in turns!?!?

Arggghhh!Tried downloading RE Pro but it wont install on my Win7 64 system....some kind of errror msg and searching online seems nobody's had much success installing or using it with Win7 64.....This is starting to get me down now :-(

Hello,

Tried downloading RE Pro but it wont install on my Win7 64 system
Dunno what are your errors messages when you try the install .. but keep in mind:When FS2004 was released .. it was intend to run alternatively under (from minimum requirements) :Windows 98/Me/XP/2000

Hello,Dunno what are your errors messages when you try the install .. but keep in mind:When FS2004 was released .. it was intend to run alternatively under (from minimum requirements) :Windows 98/Me/XP/2000So all the addon's released before (or even after) the appears of Vista or Win7 are complying with those minimum requirements. So it's not astonishing .. some will not work under the new OS environements .. for some hidden reasons :)My opinion is that Windows XP is a very stable OS for run FS2004.Regards.bye.gifGus..
No offence to you Gus, but i sorta disagree as I have not had any problems with add-ons that I have when i switched over, REpro worked for me, I also have leveld 767, pimgee 737, flight 1 md80, aeroworx B200, Gepro, active sky, fspassengers, a bunch of carenado aircraft, and maybe more that I cant think of.Again not being a smart a&* or anything, just letting people know for information, I have yet to have a problem with fs9 and win7.EDIT: But Now I notice that you wrote "SOME will not work" my bad.P.S Stranex, I can assure you that I can and am using RE pro on my win 7, so Im not sure what the problem could be, very weird. Is all your stuff for simming installed under program files (x86), not sure it would make a diffrence but that is where my stuff is installed with no problems, also is you UAC within win 7 adjusted.

Have you disabled the UAC yet? Doing so should enable you to install the add-ons. I have Vista 64 and do not have any problems installing anything with that off.

Thanks for the advice chaps, some sleep has made me a little more positive!I have UAC disabled so not sure what the problem is.....may try again later. In my desire to try some different scenery I actaully bought and downloaded Ground Environment from Flight1 but it seems to have made minimal difference (I have only tried it flying around Seattle). I can notice the different tree textures and some areas of parkland look a little different but my "shimmering" scenery (tower block windows and distant roads/buildings) remain. Is there anyway to replace the default buildings within FS9 or are they always present in any scenery add ons? More importantly is this an issue only I have or do you all see a slight shimmering of buildings/bridges etc? I am being very pedantic beacuse it's not "in your face" only a very slight shimmering (I got rid of the shimmering trees etc using AF in Nhancer and following other tweaks)I'm beginning to think it could be either a GPU, Monitor or driver problem....I'm starting to read bad things about the GTX260 series and FS9.....

Try to set Mip quality to 5 or 4 to get rid of the shimmering building textures. Most probably you have them at 8.Alex

Hello GusI totally agree with you here, XP especially XP64 is the perfect platform for FS9 and FSX.Win7 while a very nice OS is not totally compatible with FS9 and FSX on every machine out there yet.The Graphics card vendors have forgotten about the MS flightsim series so unless some driver update for another game by happy coincidence also helps FS9 I will always have problems switching between full screen and desktop and also strange black mouse cursors on Win7.

Nope, Mip quality set to 4 as per NickNs settings. Can you confirm if you are seeing ANY shimmering of buildings in the distance (windows on high tower blocks in particular)

Perhaps you and Gus are correct, Maybe I just got lucky, I just purchased my new system 2 months ago and using win 7, have yet to have a problem with my fs9, even when switching from the sim to desktop to look up charts or weather etc.I guess im glad I dodged a bullet there for not having any problems with fs9 working seemlessly on my win 7 setup.Thannks for the info
