737-NGX Question

Featured Replies

Will the new 737NGX have the ability to turn off passenger cabin lights like the Ariane 737Xs? Will they also have the wingsflex during taxi, take, off, and landings? Finally will we be able to use AES straight out without any mods to AES aircraft configurations?

Did you just hit CTRL-V twice Dan?

The only information released thus far by PMDG is in a sticky thread in the General section. I can't even guess when we will start getting info. What is AES (besides a TLA)?

What is AES (besides a TLA)?
AES stands for Airport Enhancement Services. Is an Aerosoft product to add some features to some particular airports (freeware and payware), like fuel trucks, follow me cars, catering trucks, marshallers, air stairs... and so on.

Thanks Jose. I would have never guessed that.

Whilst the cabin service panel on the Ariane 737 is nice, as are the airstairs controls and such, those being the cabin crew's responsibility, I don't see any need to definitely have them in there. There is certainly more than one airline pilot who has not got a clue how the lights and airstairs work on a 737, and since the stairs are known for being a bit crappy on the 737, I can hardly blame them. And I wouldn't want to get the union up in arms by heading into the cabin and taking over the cabin crew's jobs!I would not complain if these features were there on the new PMDG 737, but since they are not in the cockpit, I could well understand if PMDG chose to omit them as working features, although I must admit, if the wing lights don't have the cloud glare feature that is on the Ariane FSX NG, I will miss that, as it is a very nice effect. You never can tell though - I think Ariane dropped the ball when they omitted the window icing feature from their FSX 737 that was present on their FS9 one, so even they forgot one of their own cool features when making their FSX NG.I doubt you'll get a definitive reply from PMDG with regard to features, but I don't think you have to be a rocket scientist to work out that PMDG, like any good developer, will take a look at what the competition offers and see if it is worth either emulating or improving on. I like my Ariane 737, but even so, I certainly hope PMDG force me to park it up in the hangar when their new one shows up, and the big decider on that score, apart from features and realism, will be frame rates. If anything, it will get Ariane into gear on their patches and stuff, and there is nothing that drives developers more than a bit of competition. One thing is for sure, that HUD PMDG are previewing is looking very much better than the one on the Ariane FSX NG, but of course, Ariane are not standing still either from what I hear, so it will be interesting to see what they come up with when their is some really serious competition for their FSX NG.Like many, the moment the PMDG goes on sale, I'll be very happy indeed, they'd have to really stuff it up badly for me not to buy it, and we know that is one thing PMDG won't do.Al

Speaking of the Ariane 737, has anyone here flown it? I was looking at their website and I was all sorts of confused. And it seems crazy expensive for what it is offering.

Here at the AVSIM review section you can find a bizarly long review about the FSX Ariane 737-900ER. FS9 isn't very different, though, and all there models are somewhat the same. They are just longer or shorter, depending on the model... It's just that the 737-900ER at the time was the newest model by Ariane. the 737-700 for FSX is now the newest, however.I find my Ariane okay. I don't have the PMDG however, so I cant compare. but the VC of the Ariane looks nice. The texture quality is not very good, and the frame rates of the gauges are horrendous. However, the system simulation is extensive, although there is no VNAV descent (you don't really need it, though...). What bothers me with the Ariane planes, is that you can't get updated navdata for it, and I miss a way to save panel states. This last fact is the reason I did not reinstall it.

Thanks, I will check out the review for sure. I had another look at their website, and I am just as confused as ever. I just dont get what they are saying, and the price just seems so high.I have been waiting this long for the PMDG 737 for FSX, I might as well just wait a little more and get a plane from a company I have come to trust.

The reason the review is 'bizarrely long' as Ben puts it, is because at the time of writing there was a huge forum thread (one of the longest AVSIM has ever had), speculating on the relative merits of Ariane Design as a company and their various 737s. As with the Airsimmer A320, an FSX 737NG required a thorough examination because many people were asking about it, but in a similar fashion, many were disinclined to take a chance on it because of the price and other potential issues, so I went ahead and bought the Ariane 737-900NG for FSX and the 737-800NG for FS9 myself and wrote that review for Avsim because we had not been sent a free review copy to assess. The review was specifically intended to help people with that potential purchasing dilemma, so I went out of my way to address all the questions people had about the thing, and if answering people's questions when writing a review is 'bizarre', then I hope I remain bizarre every time I write a review and would also hope all reviewers would strive to do the same.Anyway, hope it helps you decide.Al

I thought it was a very good review, because to be honest Ariane as a company just confuses me, the fact they offer each varient as a different product, they talk about their features in very vague bullet points, and they offer little to no information on liveries and what their "expansion packs" include. And the price just seems so very high.I appreciated the review very much, and it certainly did help me make my decision on the matter.

Hey, Dan, while I appreciate your vigilance in enforcing the rule, on more than a few occasions when you do this I click through the link thinking their is an answer waiting for me because I find it to be an interesting question. Maybe I should just accept the "fool me twice" part of the old saying, but maybe a short nugget before the clip like "Please see the FAQs" or "Name?" and then the link would prevent me from click through thinking I had missed a thread on some cool feature in the NGX only to be disappointed. Anyhoo, just a friendly suggestion. Maybe I should just stop clicking through. Best,Doug
