Ray Smith ADE's giving me missing texture alerts?

Fellows,I have been using Ray Smith's ADE files for sometime now and it wasn't until I started using the missing texture alert entry in the FSX.cfg the other day that I noticed when I load a flight at either KMIA or Tampa(KTPA), I get a missing texture alert. The texture that I am alerted to missing is JFK_Jetway.dds, JFK_Jetway_LM.dds, Luggage_2.DDS and Luggage_2_LM.dds.For whatever reason it seems that the jetways display fine but I am not sure exactly what the Luggage_2.dds texture is to, so I cant verify it.What I am wondering is why an ADE file would be calling for these textures in an ADE file. When remove the ADE files from each airport I am fine and dont get the alert. I would like to continue to use those ADE's, but if they are causing potention problems calling for textures that are missing, they might not be a good idea.Anyone have any input on this or why it maybe happening? I have not tested at any other airports beside the two listed. Thanks for any feedback.SeanBTW, the missing texture alert entry is a great way to test new sceneries. I just got InnsbruckX the other day and it picked up 6 missing textures that the developer wasnt aware were missing, and 1 missing texture from NiceX which I still haven't heard back from Aerosoft on.

The ADE file doesn't actually call for textures. It lists objects that're specified by the designer to be used. Those objects are the one's that "call for the textures." It is probable that the textures used by a library object listed are missing, and should have been either included with the ADE download, or users told where to d/l and install the library object that uses those textures...

Sean, the only reason i could think of why you would get that with Ray's file is some of his airports have a modified Jetway which employs two jetways branching off from the corridor. you have to include the JFK jetway into your texture file, but i thought Ray includes it with his download. i also saw that ray posted in his Tampa file he added a new automated baggage sorting facility where airside B stood, maybe this texture is needed ( again he usually states in the readme file if something extra is needed and where to find it.sorry i dont have a definite answer for you but in know Ray and his stuff is very good so i am sure you will get it sorted out quickly. if not you could always e-mail him, i know he includes his e-mail in the readme as well.

Since ADE can place scenery objects, it is possible to be missing a texture if either an included .mdl doesn't have all its textures and a paired texture folder, or ADE is placing a library object, and the texture is missing from the library object's texture folder. It could be there are custom objects that use default textures and the textures need to be copied to the local texture folder (example, jfk_jetway is from newyork.bgl in the NAME scenery. I don't have luggage2 but it might be from an accel object) .scott s..

Since I do have Acceleration installed, I've searched my entire ..\FSX folder structure. Nary a sign of luggage2.dds at all. Like Scott, I quickly found the jfk_jetway.dds file(s).Those bitmaps must be from another scenery add-on...Fortunately, in FSX if a texture is missing, the object(s) which use them simply don't appear at all... :(

Hey guys, I feel like an idiot now for not reading the KTPA readme fully, lol.I read it again and saw the part where you need to copy the JFK_Jetway.dds and JFK_Jetway_LM.dds to the other texture folder. After using some of his other ADE's that dont require that I guess I had just skimmed the readme and placed the two files where I normally do.That does leave one question though. I wonder where the heck the Luggage_2.DDS and Luggage_2_LM.dds files are? I am running the NON Accel version of FSX SP2, but I dont see those files anywhere.Anyways, thanks for the input guys. I didn't realise that I had skipped that step in the readme.Regards,SeanEDIT: I sent Ray an email about the Luggage texture files, so it will be interesting to see what they are.

Well, I got an email back from Ray Smith and he too is stumped by the missing Luggage texture. He is thinking that MS probably forgot to add the texture, which I suppose is possible. I guess as long as it doesn't cause a memory leak I wont worry about it.

Well, that's a relief. As I said previously though, in FSX a missing texture will simply cause the object to which it is assigned to be "invisible," unlike FS9 where the object(s) will appear, but completely naked! :(

That's true, but doesn't missing textures cause memory leaks or performance problems? Maybe I am thinking back to the FS9 days, but I thought that missing textures could cause big problems performance wise. or is FSX different in that respect?

Not for this type of object, no. If anyone is concerned though, it would be simple enough to create 16x16 pixel "dummy bitmaps" for luggage2.dds and luggage2_LM.dds and save 'em in the same folder as the jfk_xxx bitmaps. :(

Thats good to know. I was thinking about creating such a dummy dds file, but I will have to think about it a little. Even though its a dummy, since I dont do that type of thing often, or ever for that matter, it will take me a little time. Perhaps this weekend.

I am trying to use the JFK Jetways in one of my AFCAD, but they are not displayed in FSX despite copying the JFK_Jetway.dds and JFK_Jetway_LM.dds files from "\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Scenery\NAME\texture" to "\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Scenery\Global\texture".I have also imported all the objects from "\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Scenery\NAME\scenery\newyork.bgl" into ADEX.What am I missing?
