Eyebrow windows

Featured Replies

Since some time in 2006 all B737s were produced without eyebrow windows. As the 737NG series therefore spans a period where they were fitted and then not fitted I'm wondering whether the PMDG 737NGX will reflect this and have the feature selectable?Iain Smith

That's not strictly true with regard to the eyebrow windows on the 737NG being completely deleted as a feature, they are still an available customer option on the NG and they do get built into military variants on occasion because they are useful when positioning for aerial refueling. Most civilian customers don't choose the option, as it reduces fuel economy a little bit, makes the cockpit a little bit noisier, and adds to the costs of maintenance since those windows have to be checked when the aircraft is serviced.I think it would be nice to have the option, but then again, if PMDG are going for the very latest commercial airliner NG as the model they are simulating, I guess we could live without them, as they are now a fairly uncommon feature on the average 737 airliner. I guess the deciding factor is likely to be whether or not PMDG are looking to the possibility of including the C-40B, E-737 and P-8A/MMA variants of the NG as future aircraft that might be portrayed (lots of these have the eyebrow windows). I would think that is unlikely however, since PMDG don't do military aircraft as far as I'm aware.Al

Will there be an option to have the plane equipped with the eyebrows, but have newspapers stuffed in them? Not that anyone ever does that. . .

Newspapers? Nope, maybe enroute charts.
Enroute charts, old approach plates, an old magazine my wife left in the plane, a pile of napkins... :(

Does it get distracting when they fall off in turbulance?

If I have my wife aboard rough air is not an option. :( If she's not, it's only a problem if I don't follow the procedure and checklist properly for cramming enough stuff into the space I am trying to block! :(

Almost positive this will be a selectable option on the model ala the way you can turn the icing and stuff off on the J41 or the winglets on the 400.

All of our (American Airlines) 737s that came with the windows also came with sun shades that clip onto the windows which is nice. We are in the process of removing the eyebrow windows from the original batch of planes and they are not installed in the new ones. In reality I don't notice a reduction in noise without them. In fact the amount of noise seems to vary quite a bit from plane to plane regardless of eyebrow windows or the new vortex generators they put in front of the windscreen.
