Epic Victory

The Victory and Epic are on sale this w/e. People don't seem to like the flight dynamics on some of those models; is it a deal breaker?Which of the two have better flight dynamics?

I think the Epic has better flight dynamics, as for the Victory, I feel the flight dynamics aren't even close and I would not have purchased the aircraft given how many of the metrics of the Victory are just plain wrong. Some key areas: Engine thrust is 2900# in the aircraft.cfg. It should be no greater than 1615#. Yes, the type of engine used in the Victory can have a thrust rating that high. But not the model used in the real Victory.Wing span and wing area, two keys area affecting drag, are too high (which may explain why the author felt flight dynamics were "right" with the engine thrust set so high)Fuel burn is wrongStall is some 20kts too lowAnd great to Lionheart for selling it for about half what I paid for it less than a month ago. Even at that, unless you want eye candy, I don't feel it is worth it. A big disappointment from someone I expected a lot more from and in all of my a/c payware purchases, I've never regretted a single one until purchase of the Victory.-John

I rarely get payware that doesn't have a counterpart in the real world. I love Lionheart's Epic LT, of which there are dozens flying in the real world. -John
LOL, FSX is just a game John but I get the point - kind of makes me queasy to.jja

I don't rant much about aircraft I've purchased. Usually minor issues with flight dynamics can be easily fixed. In spite of my comment regarding the Victory not making it to permanent production I took a gamble and purchased it anyway. It does visually live up to my expectations--just like the real Victory it looks awesome. But the flight dynamics are so off I feel the only fair thing to do is for Lionheart to scratch them and take time to create flight dynamics that are faithful to the real aircraft. I don't know how they could have consulted with the designers of the real Victory yet have numbers that are so far off as to be laughable. I know it's just a game, but it's money I spent. I don't recommend others be suckered into buying it because it's on sale.John

Yea it kind of flys like an RC plane on landing but still you can't totally discount the Victory because it does look cool (I fly alot in outside view) and has the best engine sound on takeoff. The glass cockpit is stone simple and works well. I made some changes to the flight model tweaks so it flies acceptably. use nHancer combined 8s or 8s quality and the VC will look great. Also, it is nice to fly with a co-pilot.jja

Just realize that this is a version one aircraft and a service pack has not been released yet from Lionheart... there are some things that need to be fixed to bring it up to Epic standards. I do not know if LionHeart is working on a update I hope he is, I enjoy flying her but she just needs a little TLC on the flight model and a couple modiications i believe with touch points around radios and such. Even with the Epic, I cant understand why the parking brake will not hold the plane still during startup it just wants to go... a service pack for Epic corrected this hope one is on the way for victory.Steve

...but, like yourself, I don't regularly use more than maybe 30-50% of the features that are emulated. Yes, it would be wonderful to have charts available, but -oh my!- How large the database would be!...not to mention the cost for keeping everything current.
Has there ever been any thought of allowing us to import just the charts we regularly use?I know there are a few sites where you can download airport diagrams and approach plates in .pdf format. Would be nice to have the ability to import those downloaded charts into a G1000 MFD.

The chief problem is that with only two exceptions (Flight1 Mustang and Mindstar's G1000), all G1000 implementations use XML scripting and the default fs9gps.dll support module. The XML scripting engine does not support display of any external files, such as .pdf charts, etc.

Bill,Are you saying that it might be possible to display .pdf in the F1 Mustang or Mindstar G1000's if they provided the interface?

Well yes, of course it could be done. Whether F1 or Stasi decide to do so is another question entirely... ;)
