April 5, 201016 yr I've been flying MD11X for several months - this problem has only occurred in the last few flights. During climb and descent, the last two digits on the PFD altimeter read outs change to "--" rather than indicating the tens of ft. This only happens for a band of about 1000 - 2000 ft then the read out reverts to normal. Happens on both PFD on both 2D and VC - but the standby is OK?Screen shot attached - before I try a re-install wonder if anyone else has seen this? Many ThanksJohn Rooum
April 6, 201016 yr Commercial Member John, this is normal. This only happens during high rates of climb and descent where you wouldn't be able to follow the values anyway. Reduce your rate and you'll see the dashed numbers. This is according the real aircraft of course.Markus Markus Burkhard
April 6, 201016 yr You get to see that a lot on low weight departures :(She climbs like a rocket when light...Andrew Andrew Entwistle
April 6, 201016 yr Author FolksThanks for the replies - I had been flying the last few flights very lightly loaded. As Dan said you learn something new everyday {that's the beauty of our hobby}RegardsJohn Rooum
April 7, 201016 yr Commercial Member I have never used the onboard autobrake system on the MD11 as I prefer to use the TSR Braking system, however I noticed in the picture above that the autobrakes are set to T O, is this even possible in the real aircraft? what would happen if you tried to land with that setting?Regards Rob Prest

April 8, 201016 yr Commercial Member Probably something like this:http://www.dauntless-soft.com/PRODUCTS/Fre...irParkingBrake/PaulI read about that a while back, I cant understand how a flight crew could do that. The story is they thought they had selected landing flaps but set the parking brake. In reality until I have flown one of those things dead tired after a 3 day block I dont have a right to judge. April 8, 201016 yr If I recall, a UK carrier did something similar in the Airbus a few years back. The Captain set the parking brake instead of CONF FULL. That was the AAIB report I was actually looking for, but I found that story instead.Paul
