May 5, 201016 yr Hi there.I've just installed FSX on another of my systems while my main computer is out of service. I only actually use FSX for testing aircraft that I've modelled.Unfortunately the PC is old and fairly powerless, and my FPS aren't great. It takes a long long time to load etc.Can anyone suggest any tweaks to completely minimise the workload my PC has to do to run FSX? The only things I need are high global resolution, anti-aliasing and high resolution VC. Everything else I can tweak to be non-existant. Is there a way to make the settings even lower than the minimum slider settings? Is there a way to speed up the start time (from when you click on the shortcut from the desktop)?Just to reiterate I only need High Global resolution, AA and high res VC.Beyond that I don't care if the scenery looks like this; Thanks!

May 5, 201016 yr Can you spot any blurries? https://www.youtube.com/user/JustaRandomSimmer Simulator Videos http://sierra-hotel.blogspot.com Aviation Picture Blog
May 5, 201016 yr Well turn off all the AI traffic, airport vehicles, road traffic, boats etc - that will help a bunchI'd leave the scenery stuff alone...Be sure to turn off aircraft self shadowing, bloom, and use 1x high water instead of 2x. Turn off lens flare and any ground shadows. Either autogen off or put it on normal. For weather set cloud draw distance to minimum and for cloud coverage use "high."That all should help. You can see my specs and my machine is pretty old now... I do alright though with payware planes as long as I stay away from big airports/cities | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
May 5, 201016 yr Thanks for your help so far guys, but I think you misunderstand me.The ONLY thing I use this FSX for is to regularly check my exports from Gmax to see how they look in the sim! Thus the only thing I need is AA, high global resolution slider and high res virtual cockpit!I don't give the slightest toss about blurries lol.I've got every slider set at the absolute minimum barring the two I mentioned above. What I want to know is can I make my settings even less than bare minumum? I want as least texture res as possible, least mesh res as possible etc etc. All my traffic is off, all my water is off, all my everything is off except from the three things I mentioned. How do I make the off things even less?Perhaps if I set the LODradius in the CFG to 0?
May 6, 201016 yr I would think it would be better to test Model Output in settings that the audience will reasonably see-i.e. average settings for the average user to see a realistic example of your models performance. Having a great model with minimal settings may hide a performance slug when normal settings are applied. My .02 Thanks Jim Atkins
May 6, 201016 yr Hi FolksMonkeyNuts -I had similar requirements.Solution -Disable ALL scenery, (inc default),except for the locale where you perform your testing.HowTo -Identify your chosen locale, using the SDK -> Terrain & Scenery -> Base File Information.Note the QMID level 4 location.Back up your All Users scenery.cfg as scenery_all_areas.CFGSave the attached Scenery_BASE_ONLY.txt,as Scenery_BASE_ONLY.cfginto your All Users location.Copy it to the same locationthis time saving as Scenery_####_ONLY.cfgwhere #### == your QMID level 4 location.Manually edit that Scenery_####_ONLY.cfg, (use Notepad).Find the #### section.Set Active=TRUESave the file, (for later use). Now SaveAs scenery.cfg (for current use).Fire up FSX,it'll reindex the sceneriesdisplaying only your chosen QMID level 4 location. On subsequent launches,FSX will load up substantially faster.HTHATBPaul ODG Preview
May 6, 201016 yr Apart from removing all the scenery files from the scenery library (except for default terrain and default scenery) you could try running process monitor (available here:[/url]http://technet.microsoft.com/en-au/sysinte...s/bb896645.aspxwhen you start FSX. This will tell you what files FSX is loading and you should be able to make a judgement on whether you need them or not.
