May 6, 201016 yr HiI need to run in windowed mode because i cannot run squawkbox as a module. Therefore i need to alt-tab quickly between SB and FSX to read/write etc. However, i'm getting severe performance loss in FSX windowed mode (maximized). Both my in-game and my desktop resolution is 1440x900.Yet, full-screen FPS is 18 and my windowed FPS is 12. My GPU does not downclock when FSX is windowed.Another solution would be to use 2 monitors (which i have). But my fps also drop when using 2 monitors (gpu thing?).Any help? Thanks John doe
May 6, 201016 yr Moderator you say Windowed maximized - meaning it completely fills your screen, correct?try reducing the window size a few pixels so that it is not completely maximized and a little of the dektop is showing.See if that helps.Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
May 6, 201016 yr Author Auto Hide the task bar, if you haven't already, and see that helps. Thanks that did it :).. just when i installed FSINN.Might just get used to that because i can use it in-game John doe

May 8, 201016 yr Could be a little more math involved to convert from less to more pixels. Just guessing.jjaIf you have VSync turned on, then it's "quantizing" of the frame rates to be evenly divisible by the monitor refresh rate...your frame rate will snap to the next lower value of FSX frame rate divided by an integer. If your monitor refresh rate is 60 (common for most LCD monitors) then an FSX frame rate of 60+ will snap to a frame rate of 60 (60 divided by 1), 30-59 will "snap" to 30 (60 divided by 2), 21-29 will snap to 20 (60 divided by 3), etc. Also, if you leave a little strip on the side or bottom of the desktop in windowed mode, and move your mouse cursor outside the FS window, you'll see a ~4-5 fps increase. That's an FSX bug that we'll never see fixed.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO Bob Scott | President and CEO, AVSIM Inc ATP Gulfstream II-III-IV-V Sys1 (MSFS20+24/XPlane12+11): AMD 9800X3D, water 2x240mm, MSI MPG X670E Carbon, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, nVidia RTX4090FE Alienware AW3821DW 38" 21:9 GSync, 2x4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2x2TB Samsung 990 SSD, EVGA 1000P2 PSU, 12.9" iPad Pro Thrustmaster TCA Boeing Yoke, TCA Airbus Sidestick, Twin TCA Airbus Throttle quads, PFC Cirrus Pedals, Coolermaster HAF932 case Sys2 (P3Dv5/v4): i9-13900KS, water 2x360mm, ASUS Z790 Hero, 32GB GSkill 7800MHz CAS36, ASUS RTX4090 Samsung 55" JS8500 4K TV@60Hz, 3x 2TB WD SN850X 1x 4TB Crucial P3 M.2 NVME SSD, EVGA 1600T2 PSU Fiber link to Yamaha RX-V467 Home Theater Receiver, Polk/Klipsch 6" bookshelf speakers, Polk 12" subwoofer, 12.9" iPad Pro PFC yoke/throttle quad/pedals with custom Hall sensor retrofit, Thermaltake View 71 case, Stream Deck XL button box Sys3 (DCS/P3Dv4/ATS/ETS): AMD 7800X3D, MSI MPG X870E Carbon, Noctua NH-D15S, 64GB GSkill 6000/30, EVGA RTX3090 Alienware AW3420DW 34" 21:9 GSync, Corsair HX1000i PSU, 4TB Crucial T705 PCIe5 + 2TB Samsung 970Evo Plus, TM TCA Officer Pack, Saitek combat pedals, TM Warthog, TM RS300 FF wheel/pedals, Coolermaster HAF XB case

When I start FSX it automaticaly turns Aero off before running FSX and then turns it back on when FSX closes. Is there a way to keep it from turning Aero off ? For me its only the task bar that slows down FSX in window mode. I'd like to try it with Aero "on" if its possible. If Aero doesn't slow me down much I'd like to leave it "on".

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder in which you installed Flight Simulator X.2. Right-click FSX.exe and then click Properties.3. On the Compatibility tab, select the Disable desktop composition check box.4. Click OK.I further assume that Aero mode would be left on by not checking Disable desktop composition. But what do I know? Thanks for the instructions. :( Enabling or disabling desktop compostion is having no effect on my end though. FSX still turns Aero off before it runs and turns it back on when it closes. Thanks for trying to help me...it was worth a shot. :(

May 11, 201016 yr In windows 7 aero is auto disabled once i start FSX..So I have noticed since posting in this thread. I use full screen mode for flying and only use windowed mode when using FSX with other programs when doing scenery work. Other knowledgeable people (although not knowledgeable in Windows 7) have advised me to disable Aero, which I have ignored since I fly in full screen mode. As indicated in the post, Microsoft's instructions are for Windows Vista. Art

If the slightest part of any view overlaps an adjacent monitor there is a major frame rate hit. I'm guessing that your 1440x900 resolution may be doing just that- leaking over the edge of the screen. Can you drag back the edge a bit to ensure this isn't happening? That is, using Minimised- drag the image edge to exactly fill the available monitor "real estate".Phrased another way, your 1440x900 resolution may not correspond to the physical proportions of the monitor.Alex Reid
