May 6, 201016 yr And yet there continues to be postings all around the community about the death of the Flight Simulator product.I just chuckle to myself and think something along the lines of "Just wait..."
May 6, 201016 yr FS Live is supposedly console only or?Most likely for XBox only. Sounds to me like MS came to its senses after realizing that they've been getting raped by third party developers all these years by releasing pretty much an engine only to a well oiled money making machine. I don't think it's going to work or at least it'll take years for it to work. Jacek G. BUT, the big downside for such engine is no prospect on a wide market...The engine is going to stall now though, if it will be only XBox. It's gonna become nothing else than any other game. Will bring money as any other game, probably more than what it brought to them now.I wouldn't even wonder, after the latest fiasko with the FSX performance - which NOW (2 years later or so?) runs OK. It was never mass-market.
May 6, 201016 yr Commercial Member I don't see anything which suggests that this is for Xbox only -- in fact one ad specifically says: If you have the skills and the passion, want to work on a Games for Windows LIVEBut it does mention Xbox Live as another one of the 'interesting technologies for this team'.

If you go to http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-US/index.aspx it looks like Microsoft is trying the on demand gaming for windows ala Steam and other services to deliver future games. In fact, Bioshock 2 is available for on-demand from there now as well. Interesting.... May 6, 201016 yr If Microsoft intended to continue development of FSX why did it close ACES and dismiss its staff?I suspect that whatever emerges it won't be FSX+ as some seem to hope. Gerry Howard
May 7, 201016 yr Commercial Member FS Live will bear very little resemblance to the flight sim you know.It will be far more game-based than ever before. To be a 3rd party developer you'll have to purchase (expensive!) a license for the SDK. All of your addons will have to be submitted to Microsoft for approval (at a cost!).Welcome to the 'new world'. May 7, 201016 yr If anyone remembers, a few years back they've conducted public survey which had quite a bit amount of questions regarding console gaming and so on. I can't really remember all of it now. I guess all we can do at this point is speculate and enjoy FSX! :) Jacek G. May 8, 201016 yr Commercial Member Call it 'insider information'. :(The iPhone 'app store' is the new approach... and there's a certain person at Microsoft who's been trying to push everything that falls under the 'LIVE' banner that direction for years. It's actually the primary reason ACES was flushed. Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69
