FS Passengers Help?

Featured Replies

Dear fellow simmers,I've downloaded FSPassengers X and decided to try the demo before I buy.I just have one niggle which I'm hoping others might be able to shed light on.I decided to use the default 737, I don't touch default craft unless I want to do some basic tests. So I start off at KSFO, as required when in demo mode. First problem I encountered was on the ground during cabin announcements; the FPS dropped immensely... to around 1FPS, I even saw 0.5 at one point. As you can imagine, the whole thing was juddery however the audio was crisp and smooth. Text appeared at the top repeating what was being said. Once this announcement was over, I got back to my usual FPS which at the moment, isn't as good as it could be (UT2 dragging it down at the moment). After take off and upon reaching 6000ft, there's another cabin announcement about drinks. Well, my simulation experience grinds to a halt. My 737 is virtually paused in the sky, with the navigation display juddering. FSX then crashes with a Windows message saying a fatal error occured. FSX then restarts and I'm back to the main menu. Thankfully this wasn't long after take off so it's not like a few hours wasted. It's obvious FS Passengers caused this and must be something to do with the cabin announcements.Has anyone else had similar issues? And are these remedied easily enough? I don't want to buy this if I'm going to have this problem.Any advice would be much appreciated as always.Regards,Adam.

Are you using onboard sound, or a sound card? If the latter, is your driver up to date?I've never had this issue with FSPAX, in over a year, either on Vista 32 or Win 7 64, so I am struggling to find an answer.Uninstall and reinstall FSPAX maybe?Do you have another program providing "crew" voices?Just looking for possible culprits.

Hi Paul,Thanks for your response.I've got onboard sound via the motherboard and as far as I'm aware, the drivers for it are up to date. When you say you haven't had this problem in over a year, does this mean you have experienced this problem previously?I don't use any other crew voice packages. I've seen plenty of people saying good things about FS Passengers so thought I'd try it out and have to admit, I quite like what it does so far. It's just a shame it went a bit cuckoo. I guess the next step is to try reinstalling it if there aren't any other suggestions.Cheers. Adam.

I haven't had any issues with FSPX, performance or anything else since it's release and I run FSX on a Jurassic Park machine. WinXP SP3 and FSX SP1.Are you running a virus scanner while running FSX? If so you might need to throw FSPX onto your exclude list if that is possible.

I use System Mechanic Pro which I guess runs in the background and will be eating away at some memory however I'm not 100% sure on how fully automated I have it set. I know I've instructed it not to perform any tasks without my say so. That's something for me to double check anyway so that's for the suggestion.I use FSX with an external frame rate limiter, as per some instructions and tweaks I've implemented. Wondered whether this would make any difference? Thanks.Adam.

Just a reminder before you make a decision to buy this program. Their support sucks, big time.

Thanks for the heads up. I did see a previous topic on here that there was very little by way of support, which is why I posted my current problem on here as I thought there'd be a better chance of me getting some help or direction. From my experience on here so far, in terms of reading topics and posts by other users and despite the geographic spread of the people on here, help isn't very far away at all. Which is why for me, Avsim is great place to get help and advice.Adam

Sorry I wasn't clear: I meant I've never had issues with FSPAX, and I've been using it for over a year.I'd try removing the limiter and stop the back ground process - but I suspect a reinstall (of FSPAX) might be easier and quicker. The FSPAX forum is not quite as bad as has been suggested. There seem to be a lot of shouting kids there, but the search function can reveal plenty of answers. Frankly, I've had no problems with FSPAX, never needed to ask there for support, so I'd hope people are not put off in that respect. It's a great addon.

I find that FSPX is a HUGE perrformance hit, in fact I did not realize how much untilafter I had stopped using it for maybe a year, I recently reinstalled it on my i7 975system, one I've been very happy with performance wise. I did a short flight in aWilco 737 PIC, and I noticed the frame rate was horrible, it was so bad the finalapproach became unflyable. I figured this was odd as I had no recollection of a problem with the Wilco before...Being suspicious I set up the exact same flight, but did not use FSPX, and sure enoughframe rates went back up, and all was fine. I did not measure it exactly but I'm guessing it was costing me in the neighborhood of 20 fps!! Totally unacceptable to me,so this product goes back into the archive...

Yeah - I'm inclined to agree with Paul.. I've used it with FS9 and now FSX, on XP, Win7-32 & 64, plus I use it with the Maddog, but I've found it's the Maddog that is the frame hog. My biggest annoyance with the program is the somewhat confusing setup of one's aircraft's weight - the pax, fuel and cargo distribution - the rest is just reading and configuring. I've been on the site a few times - never needed support. I got the impression that there was good support.I don't always use it when flying, but when in the mood for a "serious" flight - not rushed, with two or three spare hours - absolutely. I reboot, then select and load the "light" fsx.cfg (batch file); then create or load a good FSBuild flight plan: pull in the weather with ASE: get rid of the background processes: launch the Maddog's Load Manager (which launches FSX) - then EZCA and TrackIR. It's a "must have" addon for me - particularly when one of the FA's pops in with an "Are you married, Captain?...." :(

Last night I uninstalled it then reinstalled it, I also quit background processes and started FSX without an external FPS limiter. All was going well until the cabin announcements. The cabin crew announced they were starting the safety video and just as I began to taxi away from the gate area, FSX crashed to desktop with a 'fatal error'. I usually get around 20 FPS in FSX which is fine for me, however when it drops to nearly 0 FPS that's quite a huge dent. If it is something that can be remedied, I'll try all available solutions as I think it would add that extra dimension to flight simming. However, I've yet to complete a flight with it so haven't really made full use of its features. If it is just a performance issue with the program then I'm glad it's just the demo I have and haven't paid out for the full thing.Sorry for the silly question but what is the 'light' fsx.cfg? Something else, I could've sworn I heard a quote from the film Airplane when the passengers were boarding: "You ever been in a cockpit before?" I was expecting "You ever seen a grown man naked?" to follow but it didn't. :( Adam.

I'm using FSPassengers for a long time (before I was using it for FS9, now FSX) and I didn't have any problems at all... never. You can find all the answers for your questions on their forum, so the claim that you can forget about support is false. And that FSPax eat 20 FPS?!?! That's absurd. I didn't notice any FPS hit (on older machines you can probably loose a few but nothing compared to payware airports, complex airplanes,...). That's my experience.

Adam,Have you tried this: http://www.fspassengers.com/?action=faq&am...amp;question=26It's from the FSPAX FAQ, I've not tried it, but figured it might be worth a go.The "light" fsx.cfg is (I am assuming) a configuration for fsx that includes lower settings for graphics etc, so it's less power-hungry - easier to run the complex addons etc. It wouldn't hurt to turn down all your sliders etc, to see if FSPAX behaves any better with FSX taking up fewer resources. But I'm skeptical, since I was running a similar-specced rig, with absolutely no problem, till I upgraded not long ago. You should have enough ooomph with your pc to run FSPAX no problem, in my opinion.

Thanks for everyone's replies; I'm pleased to report I took a flight last night and had no jittery graphics or fatal errors. Before starting FSX, I opened the task manager and quit the following processes:- Iolo updater (linked to System Mechanic)- Microsoft Security Essentials - there were 2 items running that related to MSE.- Real Player updater. I didn't even know Real player ran in the background. When in FSX, I also disabled the text that is displayed when audio is being played. When I had the problems before, when the text appeared the jitters got worse and more or less eased when the text disappeared though still didn't account for why it crashed to desktop spontaneously.Anyway, one of, or a combination of the above items appears to have solved my issues as I was able to make a flight from without any drop in performance or fatal errors.Paul, I had a look on the FSPX forum, including the link you sent and have book marked a few for future reference. Thanks again.Adam

Adam, glad to hear it's better: it is almost certainly a West Yorkshire fix :) You know what they say: you never have to ask a Yorkshireman where he's from - cos he's already told you! :)
