SO...i too was getting the low visibility at cruise. I copied the cirrus file from ase as mentioned above. Still was getting the Haze/low visibility at cruise. I started to play around with the settings. When I unchecked "enable visibility graduation and smoothing" and saved, the haze was gone. I adjusted the maximum upper visibility and it would adjust accordingly in FSX. SO, i think this option is what is causing the haze lock. Can anyone having this issue verify that it works for them??Phil

I've been getting this low visibility problem at cruise myself, with DWC. But it is recent. Didn't happen originally.Couldn't resolve it, so I disabled DWC and used FSUIPC for wind smoothing, which cures this constant low vis.I have noted before, that if using FSUIPC and you don't disable the 'graduated vis' option, you get sporadic periods of unlimited vis then switching to limited vis, 50 miles at my settings, and then back to unlimited.I have never tried DWC with graduated vis disabled but I'll give it ago. This is more a question for Jim: What, if any, are the problems with using DWC and wind smoothing in FSUIPC, simultaneously?Stu

Jim,I too might be having trouble with a haze surrounding my aircraft at high altitude, but before I really bother you with my inquiry, where do I find the textures that disable FSX's haze? I've tried looking for them, but I can't find them. I want to make sure that ASE is copying those texture files to my FSX folder to disable the haze.Right now, I'm seeing something like below at FL250 and above.post-100412-1274479705.jpgWith the following visibility settings:52954728.gifThanks!
If you know anything at all about real world weather you would understand that what is in your image is quite normal at altitude especially in warm humid weather. Check your weather inputs. It is quite likely that in your image the temp and dew point were close enough to produce at least 60% humidity. Its normal. In fact to fly at altitude in "crystal" clear conditions is quite rare. Only to be seen in early morning/late evening flights and usually "not" in the warmer months of the year.vololiberista

Stu,You may really get shifts as both programs are going to be fighting over the wind smoothing.

Thanks for that. Are we getting pretty close to SP2?Stu

Hi,I know some things are being looked at and worked on, but how close we are, I am not sure.

Question....in regards to this haze. I turned "enable visibility graduation and smoothing" back on. I then went into FSX weather and customize section. Can anyone explain why the ground visibility is carried up through 91,000 feet?? I had a 5 mile visibility through 91,000ft. This is what ASE is sending to FSX. No wonder the visibility and haze is an issue. Jim...did you know this???Phil

Hi,That would mean that every ASE user would have a 5 mile visibility no matter what. With DWC On, many of the values you are reading in FSX are from your current location, at ground level. As I have posted before, please do not read any of the data from FS, just from AS and from your plane!

Hey Jim,Thank you for the response. I am not saying that everyone will have a 5 mile visibility everywhere. I was referring to the current ASE metar indicating 5 mile visibility at Tampa. I know that you have indicated not to go off of what weather fsx is indicating. I can argue the fact that with global weather activated, the weather from ASE is exactly the same as what FSX is indicating for the current station. The only difference with global weather on is that the metar visibility goes from 0 to 91,000feet. OK...so lets just forget what FSX is actually saying in the weather settings. I slewed the aircraft up past 91,000 ft, and what happened....the visibility went to unlimited. So...is it coincidence that it went to unlimited at exactly the height that is indicated through FSX?? Please don't misinterpret my tone of this post, I'm not trying to be a pain....i am just trying to get this resolved. I would bet that anyone...even WallysWorld, who posted his picture earlier (exactly how mine looks), would slew up to 91,000ft and his visibility will clear up. Now...again...this visibility height only happens when"DWC" and "enable visibility graduation and smoothing" are checked. Once "enable visibility graduation and smoothing" is unchecked, ASE will depict the metar visibility only to about 5000ft and then unlimited after that and can be successfully controlled by adjusting the "maximum upper visibility" slide. I will gladly take pictures of whatever you need to show you. Thanks!Phil

Hi,Wally was seeing the FSX haze layer, not the visibility layer. Once he used our clear visibility texture, his situation went away.Yes, I would like to see a screen shot of a plane at 30K with a 5 mile visibility with the maximum upper visibility slider set at, say 50 in ASE.Now, it may be true that at 91K even the haze layer disappears, but that is not the issue in question! If you don't have a haze layer, then the visibility layer in FSX drops out between 5 and 10K.

Hey Jim,I 100% agree with you about the visibility layer dropping out between 5 an 10k...that is when "enable visibility graduation and smoothing" is unchecked. When this is checked i get the unreasonably high visibility layer.I will send a picture as well as a video for you and show you exactly what i am observing. I know it is difficult to resolve things if all you are seeing are pictures and text. I will do that tomorrow night. Oh and for what its worth I disabled the haze layer and mine still looks like wallys picture. I even verified the correct file from ASE (cirrus_overcast 03) in the fsx textures folder. I do really appreciate you helping with this. Phil

Jim,I am able to at least post some pictures til tonight when i can do a video...First one shows the metar from ASE showing a ground visability of 5miles and if you look to the right it shows what was depicted into FSX, which is a 5 mile visability up to 91862ft. The second one shows all other meter info is correctly depicted to FSX. The third, fourth and fifth show visability at 34,000ft, 61000ft and above 91863ft.Also...this is with "DWC" checked and "enable visibility graduation and smoothing" checked and "disable haze layer" checked.

Hi,That is the haze layer. Try the manual method of copying the file that I have posted about.Yes, it is the same name as the file already in the texture folder in FSX.

Hey Jim,I did manually copy it over. Did it when you mentioned it in the earlier discussions. Phil
