FSX Haze...still have it

Featured Replies

Jim, as was mentioned in this post: http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=285698 I still have this haze layer in FSX even with checking the disable haze layer box checked. Why would that be? I noted that it says it inserts a texture in FSX to do away with that? Is there a way I can manually confirm that texture got put into FSX? My sim still looks like the picture posted in the thread I linked back too. I have DWC enabled as well. Must ASE be started first for this to work? I usually start ASE after FSX is loaded as I do not import textures from within ASE.

Hi Eric,Are you using any other texture program with FS?You should start ASE once, first. Make the change with FSX closed and then start FSX. Then you can go back to your method of start-up.Not sure if there is a way to confirm if the texture is carried over. I do know you could copy and paste the texture from ASE to FSX.

Jim,I too might be having trouble with a haze surrounding my aircraft at high altitude, but before I really bother you with my inquiry, where do I find the textures that disable FSX's haze? I've tried looking for them, but I can't find them. I want to make sure that ASE is copying those texture files to my FSX folder to disable the haze.Right now, I'm seeing something like below at FL250 and above.post-100412-1274479705.jpgWith the following visibility settings:52954728.gifThanks!

Hi,The file is in ASE\Images called cirrus_overcast03

Thanks for the quick reply, Jim.By comparing that file in ASE's folder to the one in FSX, I found out that when I run REX's configuration program to install new cloud textures, it would overwrite the cirrus_overcast03 texture file that ASE put there to get rid of the FSX haze. I just have to copy it back to FSX every time I use REX to install new cloud textures.

Hi JimI also find, when I change the clouds in REX, I get the haze at all times , not being computor wise, could you explain in laymansterms, how wallysworld...entered the cirrus-overcast 03 ..back into FSX, I always start ASE first..then FSX,Your valued help would be appreciatedBest RegardsDon Nelson

Hi,Not a problem!1. Run REX and make your texture choices and send them to FSX. Close REX down.2. Manually copy that ASE file from ASE to: FSX\Texture3. Start ASE and FSX as you normally would. Now you should have REX textures and no FSX haze layer.

Hi Jim and All,I too have this problem, above 22000 feet I get nothing but haze with ASE also. I have DWC and yes I have delete haze layer checked. Is there anyway to get a more RW depiction. This haze is driving me nuts and I get it on days that are reporting clear.Bob JDTW

Hi,Try manually copying the file over to FSX. Because of where FSX is installed for many and the Windows security issues, sometimes I don't think the file gets copied over.

Hi Jim, just copied the file and will report back when I fly again. One question, does this file produce a clear depiction? Another issue, that hope you guys can fix on the next update. DWC works perfect for me, but when I choose or a program like Radar Contact attempt to get arrival weather it is not the destination weather but the weather around the current position of the airplane. Is there a way you can have ASE get the actual ground weather that the ASE "report" function gets.ThanksBobDTW

Hi,1. The file gets rid of the FSX haze layer that is everywhere.2. No, in DWC mode this is always going to be the case, because DWC sets all the FSX stations to your current conditions and that is what RC is reading, the conditions in FSX. ASE knows the current conditions for every station, but RC doesn't.

Jim,that file did improve the visibility. I take it there is NO file in ASE that ever depicts clear from altitude above 23000 feet correct. BTW when ASE loaded my route today, KDFW to KJFK, it used snapshot number 23 which is clear.Bob

Hi Jim,I have 2 cirrus overcast03 files in the folder, the other is called original. Which one shall be moved?

Tom Link

Hi,The one not called original.

Hi Jim,I have 2 cirrus overcast03 files in the folder, the other is called original. Which one shall be moved?
Don't move it, copy it. If you move it into FSX, then the next time you run REX, REX will overwrite it, and you will lose it.

Thanks

Tom
