Using the VC from various aircraft

Featured Replies

Hey guys and gals:Am I to understand that it is possible to swap the VC's around for various aircraft in FSX? So for instance the LDS VC can replace the CS 767 VC? Assuming both are native FSX aircraft is this possible? And, what are the limitations? Thanks,Mike T.

Unlike the 2d panel the VC is part of the aircraft model - so you can't use one aircraft's VC in another !!!G

As I understand it this is true for FS9 but not FSX. I think in FSX VCs can be changed, but I'm not sure if they can be swapped between any aircraft.Wolfgang

That is incorrect, FSX modeled aircraft allows for separate interior and exterior models. The LDS767, and CS-767 are examples, so yes you can swap them in theory, I say that because those are complex system aircraft, and the systems may or may not like the other model. I have done this successfully with the Project Airbus external model, and the Wilco A320. Check my A320 videos. you need to do the following.1 Use an FSX external model that does not include a interior (VC or cabin, that includes interior wing views).2. Backup both aircraft folders to an external folder I'll call them Aircraft A for the external model and aircraft B for the interior model (VC)3. Create a copy of the folder you are updating (aircraft :(, if you still want to use the regular panel from the original model. Make the modifications to the copy. Necessary because you will be updating the aircraft.cfg file, so you will not be able to use both models from the same folder.2. Copy the external model from Aircraft A to the folder (or copy from step 3) with the panel you want to merge (aircraft :(. (Don't do it the other way around if you are merging complex system models) Make the model foldername unigue ie: model.pa.3. Copy the interior mdl from the model folder you are changing (Aircraft :( to new model folder.4. edit the model.cfg file change the interior mdl name or add it if there isn't one, to this interior=yyyyy.mdl (Where yyyyy is the interior model you just copied)5. Copy the exterior textures (aircraft A) to the new folder (Aircraft B) 6. Copy the interior textures from a Aircraft B texture folder to the new folders just created, if .they are not in the fallback folder nameed "Texture" If they are in that folder, make sure the the new texture folders have a texture.cfg pointing to it.7. Edit the aircraft.cfg file in aircraft B and create the new fltsim entries, using an existing one as a template. Make sure the model points to the new folder and that the names on the title line are unique.8. If you used the duplicate aircraft B folder, delete all the original fltsim entries leaving the new ones. This will avoid duplicate aircraft in the database.9 replace the contact point, lights, and view sections from aircraft A's aircraft.cfg file to aircraft B's aircraft.cfg file.If you did this correctly, you should now have the exterior model of Aircraft A merged with the VC of aircraft B.Note: This is a do at your own risk activity, that is why it is crucial you make a backup first.Edit: Don't know why I'm getting those smiles but they are referencing Aircraft B

Thanks

Hi FolksThere should be no need to parp around copying models, textures, panels, etc. :( Try just aliasing them.A simple text edit of the aircraft.cfg and model.cfg files should be all it takes. :( See the SDK's section titled Aircraft Configuration Filesand subsection Notes on using AliasingIf you haven't got the SDK, see this section of the ESP online SDK.HTHATBPaul

You can't alias them because you are mixing and matching interior and external models. , plus you have to edit the aircraft.cfg file, which you can't alias.

Thanks

Exactly. Only payware products, in which multiple aircraft models are compiled in one package, may use the alias feature. That's because the interior MDL files and all of the interior model lines on the aircraft.cfg file are already included once the aircraft has been installed. To be exact, they share the same panels, such as the CLS 747-200/300 package or the PMDG 747-8i Expansion pack, which only includes the exterior model for each variant, and share the same cockpit. Several exceptions include the merging of the default 737-800's VC with the POSKY 737 NG models, which is shown on an Air China model repainted by He Lingyuan (737-800), but I'm not sure if using the alias of the default panel will work.
