Almost every production video I see has some sort of background music, yet all I hear are complaints from people on the forums to leave the music off. Personally I think having music in a video appeals to a wider audience than just those who visit this forum. It not only prevents off-clicks by folks with short attention spans, but it also adds ambiance to the otherwise drone of engine noise.

I'm not a big fan of music in flight (or race) simulation videos. I prefer to hear the engines and other sound effects. However, I am thinking more of cockpit videos here. I have watched plenty of flight videos with music, and some of them have been excellent. The problems start when you don't particularly like the music being used!

Yes and no, but then again it all depends on what type of music you use. Ambient and lounge works very well with aviation. The moment you're putting me some disgusting minimalistic techno with no musical appeal I'm stepping away from the page. This being said, there should be both engine sounds and music, good music.

Barring music for sim sounds totally is not the answer. A judicious and well ordered mix makes things way more interesting. Just my 2 cents..regards,Macs

There is one other problem with using music in videos, Copyright! Unless you are using public domain music, which quite frankly most is not that good, or make your own, or have permission, you are violating copyright. Record companies like the Warner Music Group, is aggressively going after violators on youtube, that is why a lot of video's you see posted now, have their sound muted by youtube, with a message of copyright abuse. The RIAA has also been known to take legal action, even against minor violators as public poster cases. We rightfully condemn software pirates for stealing FS Addon software, yet people think it's alright to use copyrighted music in videos. We can't be hypocrites, if one is wrong so is the other.

Thanks

Hello !That's right, you have to care about the copyrights. But you can find really good music with better licenses. If you say "not that good" it's just because you did not find what you like for now. Search for creative-commons or "copyleft" music, or make your own music. If you really search you'll never go back to music with copyrights.Start with Jamendo. This website is easy to use. :( And the fact that you don't need to pay does not mean it's forbidden to make donations to the artists you like ! :(

You are right, I should have prefaced that with IMHO Most I've heard is not that good. I'm sure there are others that I haven't heard that are better.

Thanks
