June 22, 201015 yr Just to say that today I came across a PDF of the original manuel !Interestingly it allows for inputting of the frequency of the DME fixes. After you have pressed <Insert> for the station altitudeone presses W then key in the station frequency then <Insert>I tried it in the sim but it doesn't work. But apart from that feature the sim gauge is about 99% real. :)vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
June 22, 201015 yr Yup, the Carousel is something that we have in simming which is fairly realistically portrayed, unfortunately, there are a lot of flight simmers who won't even look at an FS airliner unless it has a FMC CDU on the pedestal.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
June 23, 201015 yr Altitudes can be inserted? :( It appears my hops around in the Tinmouse have not been very educating... What does the setting ATT after NAV do anyways? Alex
June 23, 201015 yr Altitudes can be inserted? :( It appears my hops around in the Tinmouse have not been very educating... What does the setting ATT after NAV do anyways? AlexNo altitude can be inserted is just for lateral navigation.Me too i am curious because on the manual it says ATTSelects attitude mode. The INS provides attitude outputs only. The NU and CDU areshutoff and INS alignment is lost.So if you switch to ATT on flight you loose the alignment, that is not helpfull.I think the INS is the most incredible discovery af all time.About Inertial gyroNothing related but I imagine that when the iphone 4 will be out, you will be able to track your itinerary without any internet connection.
June 23, 201015 yr Couldn't really find the info, but does the CIVA INS work in FSX? When I'll move to FSX, It'd be nice if I could have the CIVA INS in FSX too, as it's a remarkable little piece of software. I have it in the DF727, CS707 and Tinmouse II and I love it. Even printed out the entire manual to study its function. Either the INS system itself has generated an error which entails it effectively having to be shut down or if the pilot for some reason does not trust the position given. I have to say that in the latter case it is almost always down to the dissorientation of the crew!!!!vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
June 23, 201015 yr Author Boy that's a scary looking beast...http://www.simufly.com/ins/images.htmlMarkIt works!! INS is still used today as it is fundamentally more reliable than GPS (GPS is used only to update it). From the sim point of view one can only use that specific CIVA gauge in 2nd generation jets as now FMC's incorporate INS. (Though in the sim most of the fmc's use the gps function to emulate it!) What I like is that my INS equiped aircraft is navigating around the sim litterally by the seat of it's pants. You cannot beat an off track latteral error of 60feet at mach8.9 with a crosswind of 100 kts. That's how accurate it is!!vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA

Although, I fly mostly GA these days, I try never to use the GPS and plan VOR to VOR flight plans. It's not as complicated as an INS but I still totally know what you mean. It's fun :)Mark
June 23, 201015 yr If you have the CIVA INS it should have placed a folder in the location Flight Simulator 9/Civa/Docs. Turns out they actually give you 15 manuals! I suspect not many of us have been looking there as I also only found it last nightAlex

AlexAltitudes are inserted for DME updating only. You enter the altitude of the actual VOR station. There are instructions in the manual how to achieve this.I am a huge fan of the CIVA INS. I use it in Dreamfleet 727; RFP 747-200;Tinmouse 737; and of course Concorde. Peter Schluter
June 23, 201015 yr Can you share the PDF ?I second that, as I've been looking for it too!Tim Timothy D. Herman (midcon385) KMDT -- Harrisburg Int'l Airport, PA
June 23, 201015 yr Author I second that, as I've been looking for it too!TimI got it from here I have to say that the sim version is very well documented compared to the real thing! And also in my opinion the delco carousel gauge is the out and out best gauge available.vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA
