Scenic Short Flight Recommendations?

Featured Replies

Hello all!Can anyone recommend any short flights? I'm thinking around 30-45 minutes?Exotic places would be nice, but also anywhere in the world. I keep trying to pick countries and airports that I think would be shortish and then they turn out to be 2 hour flights!Thanks,Markp.s. I'm thinking about getting Orbx's PNW scenery, so if anyone is familiar with that area and can recommend some nice flights, that'd be great! I'm British and my US geography isn't so good!

You might want to check out Around the World in 80 Flights. It is one of a few FS products that have been designed to combine interesting flights, with a geographically educational touch to them, into a big challenge. They are not all short flights, but very many of them are, however, what is also interesting, is that the skill required to complete the flights is built-up gradually, so make things progressively more challenging. And it starts out from the UK by the way. Here's the Avsim review of it: http://www.avsim.com/pages/0309/FirstClass/80.htmIf you like nice scenery, Orbx will definitely do the job too of course. If you want to improve the look of FSX for nothing, then here's an useful link to a geographic listing of free worldwide sceneries too: http://walhalla.mine.nu/fsx.phpAnother thing you might consider if you want to check out the scenery but stay at fairly low level, is perhaps getting hold of a add-on aircraft that has a fast cruise speed, such as a WW2 fighter aircraft or a turbocharged GA aircraft. There are lots of very good ones out there, and a half-hour flight in a P-51 Mustang or Me262, will take you a long way!Al

Start from Telluride Colorado and go anywhere from there, it's the American Alps and the scenery is stunning. It's also the highest elevation airport in the US, around 10K, so use a plane that can handle that altitude.Anywhere in the Rockies is beautifull but KTEX will take your breath away.

Thanks for the advice guys...really great info!I decided against Orbx's PNW on this occasion, although I will definitely get it at some point in the future because those Rockies and other areas must be amazing! Al, I had a look at that Round the World one and it does sound intriguing, but that then lead me to other links and I ended up getting Aerosoft's Tahiti X! Your review of it and other reviews I read really sold me on it and it I thought it would go perfectly with my FS Passengers program shuttling people around from island to island and with some of the amazing weather settings in REX 2......it is excellent! For a scenic flight I tend to fly around the Anchorage area, try taking off from Birchwood (PABV) and fly towards Bold, then across to Valdez (PAVD) - either slow and scenic, or for more excitement go via the valleys/glaciers using something like the L39 (or freeware equivalent) .. .. ..G

PW Sceneries, it's a Caribbean scenery collection that's continually growing. (BTW click the link in my sig that says "FS Water Configurator" to go to the Striking software site.)

If you want to tour either Europe or North America through short and low level flights, here are two excellent tours set up by schroewo (Wolfgang) that I found on the Simforums website: Europe: http://www.cpp-tutor.de/downloads/EurSightseeing.zipEurope Sightseeing Tour forum threadNorth America: http://www.cpp-tutor.de/downloads/NASightseeing.zipNorth America Sightseeing Tour forum threadI've flown about twelve flights through the North American tour starting from the Florida Keys and I'm right now in eastern Georgia. Very enjoyable and excellent work by Wolfgang.

It would help to know your airspeed, but assuming it is between 60 kts and 200 kts . . .1. Get PNW and takeoff from anyplace and fly for one hour in any direction and do a 180, fly home and land. Great scenic flight. One of the better ones is between 3W5 (Concrete) and 1S2 (Darrington) short but, very scenic. The Pacific Northwest and BC Canada is very scenic, even in default fsx, but super duper with PNW.2. Fly around Oahu Island in Hawaii. Kaneohe Bay to Dillingham to Ford Island is nice. Megascenery X with free addons make is real nice.3. Get the free PW sceneries (1 - 5) and fly the Leeward Islands. Quadeloupe (TFFC) to Princess Julianna (TNCM) with stops at any of the other islands (TFFJ) is nice and scenic.4. Northern Mariana Islands, Guam (PGUM), Rota, and Saipan (PGSN) meet your criteria.5. American Samoa Islands are on the Hawaii Islands sectional. Try NSFA to NSFQ to NSTU and return if you have something fast.Gear up, go get 'em.

Some great ideas there guys, thanks! Those PW sceneries look great....and free!I like the sound of those sightseeing tours too....wow! I'm going to be busy!!As for my airspeed is relatively slow....I'm still learning so I usually use the Cessna C172.
