View switching problem

Featured Replies

I've just starting to learn how to use FS2crew and have fumbled my way through a couple of flights. One thing I've noticed has me puzzled; after loading the J41, my default F11 and F12 views do not work, ie the spot and top down view. Now I didn't have the problem before installing FScrew and I can restore the function by closing and restarting FSX, but as soon as I run J41/FSCrew, the keyboard F11/F12 doesn't work. I can select the views using the menu however. Looks like some kind of interaction is going on with FS2crew, so just wondering if anyone has any suggestions? On the broader front, first impressions are good, most of my speech is picked up and interpreted fine and I can see that once I get better aquainted with the procedures, the bird will be much easier and immersive to fly. In comparison with the Level-D 767 version I already have, speech is absolutely the way to go, in fact I dont use the 767 version as the button pressing just gets in the way. Thanks Gerard Marley

Can anyone else reproduce the F11 and F12 views issue? I can't explain that.
Bryan,Yes definately, The F11 & F12 change to different views within the virtual cocpit. Has always been like that, thought it was intentional. Only happens with FS2crew loaded.Cheers,Richard.

Just to add a bit of detail, after and only after running fs2crew on the J41, the F11 key loads FMS view and F12 loads First officer FCP view and F10 loads the captains coaming view. I've done clean installs of J41 and FS2crew to verify this.If during the same FSX session, I then load any another aircraft, the F10/F11/F12 views still do not load default views and attempts to reset default key controls using the FSX menu do not repair the problem either.Shutting down and reloading FSX, restores business as usual - until the J41 with FS2crew is loaded. Weird, one for sure.

Hmmmm, that is weird. The way it works is that the FS2Crew installer adds entries to the J41's aircraft.cfg in order to get the FS2Crew "Panel Switcher" utility to work. Those new entries, I guess, are somehow conflicting with the F11 and F12 keys, which by default I think are used for the Top-Down and Spot view.I can't explain why that happens. It may be a bug in FSX itself.Best solution I can think of:Try changing the Top-Down and Spot view hot keys in the FSX - Settings Controls menu to different keys.Other solution, if you don't mind stripping the FS2Crew Panel Switcher of its ability to work, is to open the Aircraft.CFG file and deleting the line "HotKeySelect=X" for each relevent camera view.Best,

Following Bryan's suggestion, I commented out the HotKeySelect=2/3/4 lines in aircraft.cfg and the F10/11/12 keys were restored to normal function.Seems like hotkeys 1/2/3/4 are tied to the default F9/F10/F11/F12 views in some way and are not completely free to be reassigned by the user without side-affects. Could be wrong, but it does look like some hardwired behaviour at work. What also puzzled me was that when another aircraft was loaded, the F9/10/11/12 keys did not seem to be reset to either the default camera.cfg settings or specific aircraft.cfg. Not until FSX was shut and restarted did the default settings operate as normal. In any event, I have a way forward, albeit without all of the FS2crew panel switching functionality. Thanks.PS - perhaps it would be helpful to document in the manual that the aircraft.cfg has been modified from standard and also save the original as a backup just in case.

I thought it was intentional too, like a way to stop us from cheating by getting an outside view of our aircraft (not sure how that would help with anything, I usually only use spot view when parking at a gate.)
