August 10, 201015 yr I have been trying to modify the virtual cockpit view with the zoom level of 0.3 when a session starts. I tried changing the initial zoom level in camera.cfg or in aircraft.cfg as follows but none of the attemp successful. Are they the right files to change? Can anyone help? August 10, 201015 yr Probably the easiest way to do this would be with the mouse scroll wheel and space bar when you get into the cockpit. I find I'm zooming in and out frequently anyhow to see gauges and outside views. Just hold down the space bar and scroll the mouse wheel. Mike Beckwith
August 10, 201015 yr I don't remember now if it was the default flight camera definitions, or (more likely) the actual saved camera info in the default flight - it was one of them for sure that determines the actual zoom when you start a new flight. I changed something in the default and then the next flight I started had the same value that I edited into the default flight. I use my own default now, but at the time the FSX Friday Harbor flight may have been the default because that is what I changed.Hope this helps...Loyd Hooked since FS4... now flying: FSX Acceleration on Win7/64, Core Duo E8400; GA-EP45-DS3R; GTX 460-768MB; 4G RAM; Freezer 7 Pro
August 10, 201015 yr Author Thanks Highmike but that's not what I want. And Loyd, thanks for your note and I'll try your suggestion. Tom Tsuihttp://fsxtimes.wordpress.com

August 10, 201015 yr Thanks Highmike but that's not what I want. And Loyd, thanks for your note and I'll try your suggestion. An old chestnut, but just a thought. Are you changing the "active" config file?Frank Regards Frank Jones
August 10, 201015 yr Author Hi Frank,I changed the camera settings in my default Cessna over Friday Harbor FLT file with notepad as follows:[Camera.1.2]Guid={C95EAB58-9E4A-4E2A-A34C-D8D9D948F078}Zoom=0.3 // original=0.69999998807907104Translation=0, 0, 0Rotation=8, 68.302001953125, 0[Camera.1.3]Guid={195EAB58-9E4A-1E2A-A34C-A8D9D948F078}Zoom=0.3 // original=0.75Translation=0, 0, 0Rotation=0, 0, 0These are the two virtual cockpit views, left and right in Cessna. If you haven't changed the default flight, you can modify the fltsim.flt file inside \flights\other folder. You can also add the following adjustment for the final position of your eyes in cockpit from both camera.cfg and aircraft.cfg (Cessna in my case).XyzAdjust = TRUEInitialXyz=0, 0, 0.35 <=== you have to test x, y, z value of your favorite settingTom Tom Tsuihttp://fsxtimes.wordpress.com

Thanks for raising the question. I tend to zoom in and out each time I start a new flight, and have never really thought about this kind of adjustment.Frank Regards Frank Jones
August 10, 201015 yr mouse scroll wheel and space bar? Is this the same as using plus and minus keys? Keith Sandford.

August 11, 201015 yr Author Theres a cameras.cfg in the same folder as the fsx.cfg. user\xx\appdata\roaming\microsoft\fsx.Thats the global cameras, it will do what you want.David Ranieri. No, it can't. It won't change the initial zoom. Look at my first post. Tom Tsuihttp://fsxtimes.wordpress.com
August 11, 201015 yr mouse scroll wheel and space bar? Is this the same as using plus and minus keys?Yes, but you get more control with the mouse wheel. I've found the + and - keys get stuck sometimes. Mike Beckwith
August 11, 201015 yr Author Yes, but you get more control with the mouse wheel. I've found the + and - keys get stuck sometimes.Yes but it is not the purpose of this post !!! I was not asking how to change zooming but how to set a specific initial zoom when flight starts. Tom Tsuihttp://fsxtimes.wordpress.com
August 11, 201015 yr Hi Tom,Your right, it doesnt work :( I thought i had done that before. It seems the parameters for the deafult flight override that camera setting. Best to create a flight with the zoom you want and save it asthe default flight. That way whatever changes you make to set up your flight, aircraft, weather, airport etc, the zoom will stay the same.David.(edit): i.e. the flight fsx loads at startup will have all your zooms setup and they'll stay that way.
