August 17, 201015 yr I always appreciated others posting interesting stories of unfortunate accidents of our favorite aircraft, but am amazed with this one at the fact that there was only 1 death, wow, just look at the wreckage. 1 death, that's out of 131 people on board. This is more amazing than tragic and happy to share. Here is one of the articles (video link on top left of page). i9 10920x @ 4.8 ~ MSI Creator x299 ~ 256 Gb 3600 G.Skill Trident Z Royal ~ EVGA RTX 3090ti ~ Sim drive = M.2 2-TB ~ OS drive = M.2 is 512-gb ~ 5 other Samsung Pro/Evo mix SSD's ~ EVGA 1600w ~ Win 10 Pro Dan Prunier
August 17, 201015 yr Wow, 1 fatality? maybe a microburst? or windshear. Thunderstorms in the vicinity can make for a risky approach! Could have been alot worse. August 17, 201015 yr Commercial Member This crash has made me shake my head at the media more than usual... there was apparently a lightning strike involved in the accident somehow. The likely story that I've read is that they were hit in the cockpit/radome area on short final and it disorented the pilots, which may have led to the subsequent crash. The media takes those early reports and puts up sensationalist articles (some of which are still up) saying things like "Lightning Splits Plane In 3" and stuff like that claiming that the lightning was the direct cause of the breakup of the aircraft. Absolutely ridiculous assumption to make if you know anything about modern commercial aviation. The death was actually due to someone having a heart attack btw, not from injuries sustained. It really makes you wonder when they get aviation so consistently wrong if they're wrong on everything else too... August 17, 201015 yr Author Yeah no kidding. I thought the same thing when I read it which is why I left out the lightning part. The media does this with all their stories. I've been victim to a couple myself haha. You'd think it was enough of story as is, but at least change the headline to Lightning leads to crash. It seems like this is the season here in the states for crashes, at least for smaller aircraft. There have been 3 or 4 that I've seen on the news in the last 2 weeks. It's scaring me a little since I still want to get my instrument cert and all the media about accident may make the FAA do something crazy like double training hours since all the local crashes have been pretty small private planes. i9 10920x @ 4.8 ~ MSI Creator x299 ~ 256 Gb 3600 G.Skill Trident Z Royal ~ EVGA RTX 3090ti ~ Sim drive = M.2 2-TB ~ OS drive = M.2 is 512-gb ~ 5 other Samsung Pro/Evo mix SSD's ~ EVGA 1600w ~ Win 10 Pro Dan Prunier
August 17, 201015 yr Speaking about media coverage of airplanes accidents, did you see that NTSB recommended FAA to put one senator in every GA flight? They were impressed about the media coverage of Ted Stevens accident on Alaska, since it was a single engine GA aircraft. Felipe Andrade at SBSP
August 17, 201015 yr Author That's another one that kind of got my panties in a bunch (just a saying :( ), when they first announced that story it was better because they left the former senator out of the headlines. He was one of I think 4 or 5 others that died in the crash and when I saw they started just spotlighting the titles with "Senator dies in plane crash" to me it seemed demeaning of the others that too lost their lives. There was some interesting things though about the former S-man in that he survived another plane crash years before that took his wifes life. i9 10920x @ 4.8 ~ MSI Creator x299 ~ 256 Gb 3600 G.Skill Trident Z Royal ~ EVGA RTX 3090ti ~ Sim drive = M.2 2-TB ~ OS drive = M.2 is 512-gb ~ 5 other Samsung Pro/Evo mix SSD's ~ EVGA 1600w ~ Win 10 Pro Dan Prunier
August 17, 201015 yr Commercial Member Was reading about that, he was in a Lear Jet crash and survived, seriously bad luck being in two plane crashes! Rob Prest

The media didn't pick up on that either. Dan Downs KCRP
