September 12, 201015 yr Hi,The truth is that the 980x is the best CPU around for FSX but it won't give the performance everyone expected... With UTX, GEX, and UT2 (80% GA and Airline) flying in areas like NY, Heathrow, Paris, Madrid or LAX, you may find the FPS around low 20s sometimes around 15 depending on the aircraft... Only when turning off UT2 you will see a huge FPS increase... for example today I was flying over Chicago without UT2 and my FPS where between 35 to 40 (Scenery settings maxed out except water @ low 2.x)...I think AMD Phenom II X6 1090T BE is a good option if you have a medium budget but still the Intel 980x is the way to go... Maybe with the new MS Flight things will get better... September 13, 201015 yr Haha I have to agree. That's a very good OCer to get that far on air.Not when you have to bump your volts up to 1.5 to get it. I dialed back to 4.3 at 1.45 v for now. Still gets hot, and have to keep air on it to keep it from reaching 80+ degrees. I know CrashMax has got 4.5ish under 1.4 v (which is a lot cooler and safer).

September 13, 201015 yr I own that chip. It is a good chip but it is not the FSX answer.Maybe, in a few more years we will see the answer.Until then fs9 all the way.System specsIntel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition Gulftown 3.33GHz Prolimatech Megahalems Rev.B CPU Cooler G.SKILL Trident 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Triple Channel ASRock X58 Extreme LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard (fs9/fsx and windows xp pro 32 bit sp3) Intel X25-M Mainstream SSDSA2MH160G2R5 2.5" 160GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)(back up) Intel X25-V SSDSA2MP040G2R5 2.5" 40GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Radeon HD 5870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Power color HD 5870 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Creative 70SB073A00000 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Acer GD235HZbid Black/orange 23.6" 2ms Widescreen 1080p 120Hz NVIDIA 3D Vision LCD Monitor Diablotek PHD Series PHD750 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Power SupplySorry, I don't understand : Your system is based on i7-980x with 6GB Ram and your OS is windows XP 32 bit ???Why waste all that potential with such a limited OS ?CiaoMaurizio Como (Italy ) www.sim737ng.it I9-13900kf-Asusz790-32GB GSkill-Rtx4080-MSFS/P3Dv6-3xBenq1080ST-Win10-Prosim3.26-AS-Envtex-Envshade-Orbx basepack,OpenLC Europe-CPFlight hardware-RSP TQ-Always on Vatsim
September 15, 201015 yr Let's see, Intel i7-980 6-core extreme at 3.3GHz. is $1,000.00 bucks then overclock to 4Ghz. for decent FSX performance. AMD Phenom II 6-core is at 3.2Ghz. is $ 299.00 bucks then overclock to 4GHz. for decent FSX performance. 4GHz. = 4GHz.Take $700 savings and buy a top end graphics card, couple of 1080p screens, new cockpit hardware, etc.,... you get the idea. ;)That's what I would do, only I would get an i7 920 instead of the AMD part.
