AFCAD2

In regards to Afcad2.21, I suggest you move on, as most have, to ADE9X. It is a much better program that is being actively developed and supported.
...except that when you search an airport in AFCAD 2.21 it brings up a list of airport sceneries for that airport - stock; modified; modified. This is a very quick and easy way of checking how many airport scenery .bgl files you have for a particular airport. To my knowledge, ADE9X does not do this. Also, AFCAD is a handy way of finding an ICAO airport code - faster than going online to do it. Just open the program, find the country, the name of the city, and bingo! :(

There is an option in afcad2 to open a specific file. So if your afcad file is in an unusual place put it's path there. There is nothing wrong with the way afcad works its you and your system.vololiberista

Yup. that's pretty well all I use it for!Except when I'm trying to tidy up an addon airport thaty includes errors ADE9X is unable to identify. Sometimes those old Afcads won't compile in ADE and sometimes I don't have the patience to work out why. There's a freeware EIWT for which I deleted everything piece by piece in ADE9X and it still wouldn't compile... Afcad221 is more forgiving (which is to say it happily includes the errors I'm trying to clean). I suppose I ought to make my own EIWT but there's such a looooooong list of other stuff I want to do first!Yeah. Use ADE9X. You can guarantee error-free airports with that and it looks nice too.----------------------------Roman, if you're still having trouble with finding your airports, can you post a picture of the folder tree from Explorer so we can see what folders and sub-folders you have in your FS installation?Regards,D

All active entries in the Scenery Library must have a scenery sub-folder......this is what is causing the error warning when you start the sim.To eliminate the error either un-check the Scenery Library entry for Addon Scenery or add a folder named scenery in the Addon Scenery folder. The issue you have with Afcad2.21 is a separate issue. What OS are you using? The first time Afcad "collects" the airports can take a while. In regards to Afcad2.21, I suggest you move on, as most have, to ADE9X. Joe, I am using XP Pro. I have never had an issue with AFCAD, until now. approx how long does it take to collect the airports on first run? Roman

ADE will tell you why the file won't compile. In ADE go to settings>options and check the "Save XML after compile" box. When a file won't compile ADE will then tell you why, and show you where the error is in the XML file.regards,Joe

A minute or two should do it.Did you eliminate the startup error? Are all of those scenery addons active in the Scenery Library when you first open Afcad? In the folder that contains AFCAD.exe should be a file named "AirportIndex" and a file named "FileList".Try moving them out of that folder and then try opening an airport in Afcad, making sure all your addons are active in the Scenery Library.regards,Joe

...or make a copy of the file named AirportIndex that is found in the same folder as AFCAD.exe and rename it FS9_Airports.txt. Then you don't even need to open the program, just this file.regards,JoePS. if you have ACA2005 you will find the same file, 'cept it's named "FSAirports.txt"

A minute or two should do it.Ok, it has been hanging up for almost 30 minutes.... so no dice again.... Did you eliminate the startup error? - No. although all of my scenery does work. Are all of those scenery addons active in the Scenery Library when you first open Afcad? - Yes they areIn the folder that contains AFCAD.exe should be a file named "AirportIndex" and a file named "FileList". - Not in the one I downloaded. i tried from AVSIM, Simviation, etc... Try moving them out of that folder and then try opening an airport in Afcad, making sure all your addons are active in the Scenery Library. - all of my addons are active. regards,Joe
here is what the extracted Afcad Zip File turns into. these are all the files in the folder.

it just doesnt make any sense to me. out of nowhere, AFCAD just stopped working. and that error, I'm not too concerned with it, since all my addon stuff does work.

The other files are generated by Afcad when it "collects airports". They are not included in the zip.

out of nowhere, AFCAD just stopped working...
...because of some change you made to your system. So what did you change, what was causing all the crashes you mentioned in your earlier post?I see that you have a non-standard install (not on C: drive), I suggest you download and run the registry repair tool you can find here- http://www.flight1.com/view.asp?page=library

...except Afcad. I don't think will cause your Afcad problems, but it is simple to fix and if it is causing the problem there is no reason not to fix it.Afcad has worked for too many people, for too many years for this to be a problem with Afcad. That being said, I still recommend ADE9X over Afcad every day of the week, and twice on Sundays.regards,Joe

Morniiiing!Joe, thank you. I suppose I ought to read the whole manual instead of using it as a troubleshooting guide. I'll try that with a known bad airport tonight and see if I can understand the result...Roman, I wonder if you have one bad layer in there somewhere. I tried for a long time to get another utility, ScanAFD, to work but it would always hang when searching non-default folders. By disabling all my addon scenery layers in FS9...Settings...Scenery Library and re-enabling them one by one I traced the fault to one addon airport. You could try the same and see if you come up with anything. If you don't have a ..FS9/addon scenery/scenery/ and a ..FS9/addon scenery/texture/ folder you will have to disable and remove the 'Addon Scenery' layer in FS9.Settings...Scenery Library. I'm not sure if that's possible so it might be better to put dummy folders in there. Without the ../scenery/ and ../texture/ folders I don't think Afcad221 will find the layer.Regards,D

They are not included in the zip....because of some change you made to your system. So what did you change, what was causing all the crashes you mentioned in your earlier post? - I uninstalled and reinstalled FS9. that was it. then, from a backup drive, brought back the addon scenery that I saved. the crashes, were the typical FS9 crashes to desktop and I got tired of them since they were starting to occur more and more frequently.I see that you have a non-standard install (not on C: drive), I suggest you download and run the registry repair tool you can find here- http://www.flight1.c...sp?page=library...except Afcad. It will take some getting used to. Is there a way to view the airport with lights and VASI, like in AFCAD? regards,Joe

I will try that, Dave! By adding the dummy folders "scenery" and "texture" under Addon Scenery, I was able to get rid of the error on startup. Now, to go, one by one, and get AFCAD to collect the airports. still won't work. Thanks
