Uninstalled FS2002 before FS9 was even on my computer. I don't junk up my sim with all those addon planes and sceneries, so migration between sims is a painless process for me :-)Ken

Greetings Mark!I have no reason to regret the passing of FS2002. I always fly with EDimensional glasses on, and FS2004 has got rid of some anomalies that cropped up in FS2002. Also: with scenery and autogen sliders fully to the right, FS2004 gives me about the same framerates as its predecessor did with these sliders fully to the left. As far as aircraft add-ons go: I'm impatiently waiting for the MAAM crowd to publish the new R4D and, of course, to update Briefing Time! But that's a matter of weeks only, so again there is no problem.Add-on airports and towns (like Venice and such): they stink from hell to high heaven in FS2004 just as much as they did in FS2002, so again there's no reason to go back. These add-ons simply can't sufficiently cope with stereo-3D, nor can they be expected to. As my fellow countryman Matthijs Kok of Lago wrote: "We make add-ons for FS2004, not for the various kinds of hardware any individual might happen to run the sim on", or words to that extend. Makes sense, of course. And since I had the choice of, on the one hand, HAVING Venice and NOT having EDimensional 3D, and on the other hand HAVING EDimensional 3D and NOT having Venice, I deleted Venice so fast that my hard disc doesn't even remember once having had it. So: I never regretted uninstalling FS2002. It did nothing for me that FS2004 doesn't do as well (and often better!), while the things that FS2004 can't do for me, FS2002 didn't do either. So here is one happy SimFlying Dutchman for you!Jaap Verduijn.

Uninstall 2002? More like uninstall 2004 for me!! I gave it several chances but to me its just a new framerate eating weather engine. Reasons I'll keep 2002 for now...1) The good payware 2002 stuff is not 2004 compatible yet.2) I get slideshow ILS approaches...and I don't even see any AI traffic around... heaven forbid if I had Ultimate traffic running!3) Many default frequency errors, need the new AFCAD to fix this. M$ where do you get your navdata from... 2002 was right but 2004 is now wrong??4) Like mentioned before, can't get a ceiling with the clouds.. I shouldn't have to reduce my settings to get one.5) Need to repurchase addons to work in 2004 - and no I don't expect free upgrades... its just some of the addons are becoming almost as much as the sim itself! (Prime example is the new A330/340 from PSS the 2 base packs and 5 liveries will cost $83 Canadian after exchange rates) Not blaming this on PSS but the value of the dollar right now. All these little things can add up if you want em!6) Probably need to upgrade my Ti4200 card to something more powerful, more $ burned, and is it really worth it?All I did was copy the textures from 2004 to 2002 and I'm happy for now, I'm sure in time I will move onto 2004 once the dust settles... but until then, 2002 it is!!Chris

Yeah but Chris weren't you a beta tester? What I mean is you got 2004 before it hit shelfs so in theory you easy could of got rid of 2002 before the release of 2004. So the question is did you get rid of 2002 before you got your thank-you gold copy?NP

I have both FS installed. FS2002 still has the DF737, more stability, tons of addons, etc.

Ah Ha! i deleted FS9!! tt

I'm just really glad FS2k4 runs perfect on my system. I still have FS2k2 installed for all the reasons mentioned above but when I compare performance FS2k4 beats out FS2k2. FS2k2 gave me stuttering problems when I came down from altitude during a long flight and when autogen scenery started displaying again because the ground was closer on final approach. I always had to push the 'Windows' key in the middle of an ILS approach and return to the desktop and click back into the sim in order to refreash the scenery to get my framerates back to where they were when I took off. No problems like this with autogen in FS2k4.FS2k4 has many much needed features added into the ATC sytem such as requesting higher/lower altitudes while in flight, use of multiple runways at all major airports, and the ability to open a flight plan in the middle of a flight (or change destinations). The weather system is awesome as well with the new updated FS_Metro. Using FS_Metro you actually see a storm front develop in front of you as your flying into it, this is just amazing to see. Last but not least interactive Virtual Cockpits is hands down the best added feature. No more switching between 2D/3D when setting up for a landing. I only fly planes now with fully interactive Virtual Cockpits...I originally had many problems with FS2k4 until I did a few simple things: 1. One was to max out all sliders in my 'Video Card Settings' except for AA. That option I left at it's lowest setting (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT)...2. Used FSW's (Chris Willis) weather and scenery update which corrected the problem I was having flying above the clouds. Those clouds used to kill my framerates.3. Downloaded the latest FSUIPC (of course).4. In FS2k4 made sure AA was turned off and set all my other settings to my liking. I found setting your 'Target Frame Rate' is very important as well...I have had nothing but a great time with FS2k4 every since I did the things above. It really bothers me to see so many that can't really see this sim in all it's glory. I used to think it was just a GA sim while FS2k2 was for the heavy iron but that's not true. I assure you FS2k4 is great all around.Dillon--Dell P4 2.6gig 800FSBATI Radeon9700Pro160gig HD 1gig SDRAM

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

I just installed a new 120gb hard drive and upgraded to windows XP. So with the space I have now, there is no need to delete 2002, in fact I still have 2000 installed, because of the Concord.

I agree with you smorose!HD are so cheap now that really deleting you fave programs to make space for other new ones is a thing of the past.I will probably keep FS2002 up and running for another year or so! I just love it I have invested in lots of really nice scenery and complex aircraft (i.e. PIC767) it runs great frame rates and with Chris Willis clouds and FSMETEO and all the other great addon products it is FANTASTIC. Yes, FS9 has its pluses no doubt about it but it should be running alot smoother and a lot faster than FS2002. My 5 cents!Tony

Never bought FS9...2002 is absolutely fabulous for me! Lots and lots of cool stuff with 25 FPS Sliders Maxxed...all of the time!

Dillon,You got it. Anti Aliasing is a frame rate killer and no body cares to tell you. I found out that it takes up to 40% of frame rate.Seev

After a little time beeing WoWed by the eye candy I'm back to mainly flying in Fs2002. Maybe if the add-ons / ports of old add-ons get beter I'll finaly get into FS2004.
