October 17, 201015 yr Hi AllI've recently purchased a new computer which has allowed me to get seriously back into simming (after a 3 year absence - yay!) :( I think it's a pretty good spec machine, and as a result have most of my sliders on max, and it seems to handle it perfectly, I'm happy with the frame rates I'm getting, so all good...One issue I do have is that the scenery seems quite blurry most of the time. One specific problem I've found is thtat I did a flight this morning from KDAB to KTPA and as I was on approach to KTPA, I was only 12 miles from the airport, in perfect clear sky, and the airport just didn't appear, until I was about 7 miles away. It just shot into life as if from nowhere.I would have expected to see the airport a long time before this in perfect clear weather - am I being unrealistic? I guess it's a "draw distance" issue but does anyone know how I can get around this?ThanksMartin

October 18, 201015 yr Just tested approach to KTPA using default scenery and Brandon De Palo's KTPA_full_v1 with no problems. I have had some problems where photo scenery, i.e. airports, are installed, where the surrounding textures have been "faded". Hope Mad Dog's suggestion works.
October 18, 201015 yr Another good tip is to use a zoom factor of 0.5.This not only gives you much better peripheral vision, but makes the scenery look a lot more crisp.Worth a tryNeil
October 19, 201015 yr some more stuff i found here from Holger Sandmann and Jon Patchhttp://forum.simflight.com/topic/59560-the-fuzzies/
October 19, 201015 yr Those are some good ideas but I believe they are for terrain while OP is asking about scenery objects popping, in particular runways, taxiways, and aprons but also terminals. I think traditionally scenery was grouped with a draw distance, and individual objects had visibility radii. Since FS9, where xml has been used for airport design, there seems to be no direct control over visibility. For 3d objects using mdl formats, fs9 has promoted the use of LOD models, and the display of the most detailed model is a function of distance and screen resolution. Of course, we always get into the argument about 32 bit uncompressed texture vs DXT compression, and mip-maps versus unmipped.scott s..
