FS9 how much worse can It get

Featured Replies

Wolfgang, Depends upon whether you fly low and slow (VFR) or high and fast (IFR) as I do. I fly mainly 737s and MD82s so I don't need to see the Chickens and Fast Food places. By renaming the default.xml file I ridded myself of the sim collecting those items while I was on final (resulted in a slide show). By changing the Terrain_???_Objects=1 to 0 (don't remember exactly which one that was) the long 3-5 second pauses were totally eliminated. I now have my Autogen slider fully maxxed out and the buildings and trees are still there. No chickens, no flying pigs, no fast food -- oh, well. I'm just saying that of all the tweeks I tried -- and I must have tried all of them except going to XP -- JimmyG's was the one that allowed me to fully use FS9. I'm getting frame rates in the 20s - 30s and the weather is fantastic. Full 100% 3D clouds, cloud draw distance at 60 miles, with FSUIPC visibilities set to 4000, 3000, 2000, and 1000. I even have the Water effects totally pushed right and the ocean looks really great! The view from my office is actually 98% real to me. I still get the occasional 1 second pause whenever FSMeteo or FS real-world weather updates but it's so minimal that it isn't even a distraction to me any longer. I can honestly say now that I love FS9. No going back to FS2002 now. I am a happy camper. :-cool

Don't know. Might be worth a try. You can always go back if you don't like the settings.

Kevin,I absolutely second your statement! There is just one thing MS should change for FS2006:When FS2004 installs, it automatically costumizes the settings individually for the rig on which it is installed. So the default settings on a P4 3.06 are different to the default settings on a P4 2.4 or an AMD XP2000. And these settings should guarantee to squeeze the maximum out of a specific rig.So why doesn't MS go even one logical step further and disbales any change of these initial settings? No more slideritis, everybody would be more satisfied than now, when everyone assumes by error he could improve the look of the scenery, just because there is the possibility to change settings. Nobody would know, that the scenery could look better than it does on his outdated system, untill he sees it at a friend's state of the art PC. But then he would not blame MS, he would accept that the better looking scenery is caused by the better system his friend owns. When you own an old black/white TV set you do not blame the TV stations, that you cannot receive their programm in full colour.Just an idea, but not the worst I thinkWolfgang

I personally like having some control. Because I am not an FPS nut, but love the scenery. So I will trade a few FPS for better quality. But you know as well I as do, if it became a slider free sim....then everyone would be trying to hack into the coding to adjust it. Why? Becuase they can. Just because its there. Kind of like climbing a mountain...Why? because its there.

>I would have to disagree to an extent with this. And agree>too. I agree that it is designed for the next gen computers. >However this is a totally different problem that this>gentleman is having. A known issue. As I said at the end, I don't disagree that there may be a real, specific problem with one set of autogen. That remains to be confirmed since it's only been a "known issue" since yesterday. We all remember how everybody got excited about renaming the video card in the fs9.cfg until it turned out to be nothing at all. However, what I do disagree with and which reduces any plaintiff's credibility, is the common and unrealistic expectations voiced in the gentlemen's statement that they should be able to run maximum sliders.

With the goal of the game being to tweak various sliders and cfg files so that the framerate counter in the corner is maximized. Highest framecounts for each class of computer can be posted to a Hall of Fame page at the MS website.

"Search this Forum for JimmyG's solution. Renaming the default.xml autogen file to default.old and changing the one setting in the FS9.cfg file (Terrain_??_Vector=0 vice 1) will do the trick. I have a P4, 2.4 512Mb DDR333 and I nolonger have the slide show. I have my Autogen slider all the way right as well as 100% 3D clouds. Took me about 6 weeks to get to this as I had lots of problems earlier. Look for my earlier posts on frame rates, slide show, etc"I cant find the post on making these changes... Anyone know what they are?

Brilliant! Incredibly funny and intensely sad at the same time. I really have only been playing MSTweak 2004 so far and I still get stutters and multiple monitor problems. But you comment is some comic relief, thanks!Leo Bakker

That's what they do over on the nvnews forum, where the game apparently IS FPS and Image Quality measurements.
