NGX Concerns and Questions...

Featured Replies

OK, while looking at the insane preview pictures of the NGX, I noticed a few things.Concerns1:The gauge backgrounds are blue. Is there a way to change them back to black like many -700s are? And of course, blue gauges means the colors are going to be a tad different. Like the engine started on light being yellow not amber. (I've seen a preview somewhere else that had black gauges, which leads me to believe you can)2:The object (?) above the window lock/unlock handle seems quite large compared to the -700? Is that different for the -800, and -900 models?3:The fuel gauge isn't the round dial-like gauge I'm used to. Is there a way to turn it back the round one?4:Some gauges have random switches (like a wierd one thrown in middle of something else?QUESTIONS:1:Will there be a virtual cabin?2:will the flightdeck door open? (animated)3:Will the windows open?4:Will your FMC have updatable airacs? Thanks in Advance,Collin Biedenkapp

Concerns:1) No. That is how real LCDs are.2)The screenshot from which from which you are deriving information was taken as a wide angle shot right next to it. It is the correct size.3)The fuel gauges shown are an option on the real aircraft. PMDG will most likely include the option to switch.4)Be more specific.Questions:1)No2)No3)Who knows?4)Don't think PMDG is going to change the trend now.

Actually I'm pretty sure his observation is correct, several people have noted that its size and orientation seems off.

well, whatever several people (2 or 3 in this case) think doesn't make it automatically "correct". I suggest studying various aviation photos that share similar perspective - these things can appear large specially when viewed in wide-angle photographs taken from a seat. Also I suggest the following exercise - compare their sizes in side-view images with the similar photographs from real world (this side view perspective is readily available on hundreds of images), you can even take measurements, since they match very well - whatever you see as 'larger' is the result of the perspective and optical illusion only.

Hello. On your questions I believe 1 and 2 are really not important it don't add any value to the product in my opinion as long as the aircraft is perfect for both 1 and 2 it would not make it more or less interesting for me.3 I'd say maybe even if that is also something very optional for me.4 Obviously they have a single database update for all their products (747, Jetstream and MD-11) so I4m quite sure they'll use the same files as sources for the FMS so that it will obviously be updated though navigraph as usual.

I'm not going to get into a big argument over this, as I'll admit it's nit picky... but it's not just the size that seems off. The orientation of the structure appears different from the NGX to the real world example. And your observation isn't anymore correct than mine is, neither of us have empirical data to work off of. If PMDG comes in here and tells me I'm completely wrong then fine. Otherwise... well, otherwise I'll just buy the NGX anyway. tongue.gif

Concerns:1. It's called the brightness control. LCDs *do* look like that when the brightness gets up high. I saw it in the real airplane. When it's down lower they look blacker.2. Vin already fixed this.3. Selectable carrier option.4. Not sure what you mean here - if you're talking about switches missing their caps etc, that's how the real plane we photographed was.Questions:1. No2. Probably not due to no cabin3. Cockpit windows, of course - pax windows, no4. Seriously? Every plane we've ever made has this, why would we not do it with our flagship product?

Alright, in this order,1:I did not know that about the gauges, (you learn something new everyday. The planes I've been on they all seemed black. Cool! I couldn't imagine how you'd have it wrong. I figured it was an model difference or carrier option or something)2:I get it, the wide angle, and it's since been adjusted3:Awesome, I prefer the dials!4:That is insanely realistic. I can't believe how close you guys got this to real!1:OK. That's probably a huge framerate killer,2:Yea, that makes sense -> no cabin3:SWEET! I love opening them sometimes!4:Awesome. The other -CENSORED- 737 I use doesn't have it. :( I can'tYes I know I'm ridiculously picky, but I was just wondering. I am absolutely anal about having it as close to perfect as I can!

BTW: The gauges: Here is all I meant by that: The picture I took from the real plane and an earlier picture of your plane show black backgrounds and the new one shows blue. I didn't know the brightness had the great of an effect on it! (I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE WRONG! I am going to buy the NGX no matter what!

Alex-If you pick up on a bit of "attitude" from the members of the team- it is because your question seems to assume that PMDG is comprised of a bunch of teenagers who's aviation experience is spending a few minutes on a flight deck with a digital instamatic. In reality, this team has a couple decades of experience in the airline industry, a few thousand hours of pilot in command of airliners, scientific experience developing advanced aerospace systems, thirteen years in FS development and direct input from Boeing, as well as a number of airline partners...So....Yes- your photograph shows some screens with a blue tint, and others plain black. Instead of telling us that we've done it wrong- why not **ask** us if we know why your photo shows what it does? Then our answer would be: The backlight that illuminates the screens provides enough lumins of backlight to make it easily readable in direct sunlight, but can be dimmed to provide minimum lighting at night. When the backlight of the display is turned up, you get a blueish tint. You can even do this on your own LCD at home if you get bored...
