Scenery Disaster

Featured Replies

If this is not the correct forum for this I apologize. The files are FSX and the OS is Windows7 so I thought perhaps someone using FSX might have seen this problem.I was attempting to re-install some graphics software from HiFi. There were a lot of problems getting the correct install, including the repurchase of one application. The final install went as designed. After getting the applications squared away, I looked at my FSX directory. There were a large number of scenery folders missing - Aerosoft, Blueprint Simulations, all my Addon sceneries, etc. We're talking thousands of individual files. Before the aforementioned install difficulties, all my files were on the disk.I looked at the disk summary and it appears the files on disk are still there. However, after extensive searching, I cannot find any of them. I have backup files but this is a very large problem. What's weird is - not all my sceneries are missing. ORBX, OZx, UK2000, SimMarket, TropicalSim, and RealNZ are still in place. I can't say for sure, but it appears all my files in the c:\fsx\scenery\ folder are still there. All my aircraft appear to be in place. All my AI is still present. So, some scenery files are still visible and some are not. During my installation steps, there was not enough time for some kind of deletion action to take place. I checked the "bin" and found nothing. I'm wondering if there is some kind of process that would make a whole bunch of files invisible.Any help would be much appreciated.ThanksFrank

Have you tried a system restore back to a point prior to the problem?

I've tried several to no avail. System restore (unfortunately) does not restore your data files - at least the ones I tried. I'm still missing all my scenery folders for addon airports.fb

I keep telling everyone to make an IMAGE file of their hard drive. If you have W7 Ultimate or Pro this is a snap. All you would have had to do, is bring back the image, and your entire system would have been back at the point you made the image!!!! I'm not talking about going and grabbing a back up file to reinstall something...no...but your entire working system as it was prior to what is causing you to want to bring it back.I make a new back up image file after I install any major program, scenery, aircraft, etc.You go to Control..and then to Backup. At the top left of the backup screen is the mask for clicking to make an image file. Use an external drive to hold your image. With this in place..then is no such thing as a disaster any more. Even if your internal hard drive bit the dust...you'd only have to bring back your latest image to the new disk..and once more you have your system as before. This can save HUNDREDS of hours, and reams of frustration, let alone even rounding up all your purchased files and their registrations!!!!

Does this not work with Windows 7 Home Premium? If not, I guess one could use something like Norton Ghost to create a similar image?
