November 14, 201015 yr Author So how did you do? Did you stick the landings? Did you try an ILS approach in the rain/fog?I did a full vfr circuit at gatwick in the A320, was advised to follow the flight director and not look out the windows too much. Greased the landing which I am pleased about. In the 737 we practised a few ILS approaches without the FD which was great. First approach was at night to Manchester, followed by a CAT I into gatwick and then some more vfr circuits. I have to say that it was the most incredible experience and I still can't stop grinning. The aircraft are completely different (handling characteristics) compared to their best FS counterparts and its a LOT easier to overcompensate in the FFSims compared to FSX. I've always been a Boeing guy, but I actually prefered flying the A320 although maybe that was because I had more time in the a320... November 14, 201015 yr Commercial Member I have to agree with you on the Airbus bit, hand flying that aircraft with the autotrim is awesome.Did you fly the MD11 sim? How was that? Nick Collett i5 2500k @ 4.4GHz, GTX 480, 8GB Corsair 8-8-8-24, 300GB WD Velociraptor, Corsair HX850W
November 14, 201015 yr Commercial Member CTC don't have MD11 sims... Rob had been talking about LH Cargo in Germany, who do offer MD-11 simulators, among other aircraft. Nick Collett i5 2500k @ 4.4GHz, GTX 480, 8GB Corsair 8-8-8-24, 300GB WD Velociraptor, Corsair HX850W
November 15, 201015 yr Commercial Member Rob had been talking about LH Cargo in Germany, who do offer MD-11 simulators, among other aircraft.Hi Nick,I haven't used the Lufthansa sims, only BA and I used to have access to a A330/340 sim a long time ago. The MD11 sim was suggested to me by a friend, it's definitely on my to do list :) Rob Prest
November 15, 201015 yr http://www.protoura.com/-proflight-e/2-planes/types.php?navanchor=1010000They even have the A380 now :)Rob, A Gazillion thanks for that link! I definitely know what to do now and I thought I'd be much much more expensive based on what they charge at SAS Flightacademy (Stockholm, Arlanda). You don't happen to know how long a session lasts? It would be fun to get a group of people together from this forum and go there having a Ball! Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------

Probably £500 (including flights there and back etc) absolute minimum for an hour's time in the sim - it's just not possible for me at the moment. Nick Collett i5 2500k @ 4.4GHz, GTX 480, 8GB Corsair 8-8-8-24, 300GB WD Velociraptor, Corsair HX850W

Personaly I don't mind spending the cash on flying lessons and sim time, I have friends who will spend thousands on upgrades for there cars or £300 on a pair of designer jeans! I think they are crazy! they think I'm crazy! so live and let live :)Krister - not too sure how long the sessions are mate, I was supposed to go this summer but couldn't find the time. Rob Prest

Too bad I don't have the $$ since those very sims are like 10 minutes from here... MD11, all Airbuses ranging from A300-380, Boeings from B737-767, duh! :( Gotta save some money.

November 15, 201015 yr Heres a cool video of a time lapse showing the build of a FFS.Incredibly interesting footage.Love that motion envelope. That's almost 45° tilt into each direction, while I wonder when those would be fully used, maybe during RTOs or so.Couple questions that arise: Why is smoke blowing thru the hall twice during the video (most noticable at 4:12)? I do know some sims will simulate smoke but...!? What are these two huge diameter yellow hoses connected to the sim? The probably most interesting question though, quoted from Youtube: "would be interesting to know how that mirrored screen works". Yes, exactly. I've never seen the screen from inside. As far as I see there is a smaller canvas around the flight deck windows. Alright, then there is this huge curved concave mirrored screen around. When I was on the roof of some other sim I noted multiple big projectors, so I take they actually project onto the mirror, which in turn reflects the light onto that canvas? It this how it works? I've read about fresnel lenses as well regarding FFSs, even on Avsim forums. Anyone able to shed light on FFS visual systems? I'd greatly appreciate it.
