I dont have any pausing issues with NY except that it is one of the most frame rate intensive areas of Flight Simulator.Do you have any addon scenery? ie.. Aerosoft manhattan, JFK or LGA scenery? If so try deactivating them one at a time in the scenery library and see if you can track it down to one of them.Rob

Given that it's NYC, it's pretty frame rate intensive. I would turn down the autogen scenery when flying into or out of NY and see if that solves the problem. And like Rob said, if you have any add-on scenery in the NY area, disable it. That should make at least some difference.

Like Rob said, if you are running FSDreamteams KJFK the pause could be from it loading or Imaginesims KLGA loading into view.If you have neither of those sceneries, but are running Ultimate Traffic 2, the pauses could be from that loading and injecting traffic into JFK, LGA or Newark. The NYC area is probably the most FPS intensive location in FSX, next to KSEA or the London area if all scenery sliders are maxed or close to max settings.

FSDT's KJFK is less framerate intensive than the default FSX KJFK scenery imo

I agree, with the stock KJFK and the PMDG 747 I would get about 16 to 20 FPS when scenery complexity slider was maxed, with the FSDT JFK I get 25 to 30 FPS all while showing more scenery objects. Same results with KDFW as well. The stock FSX version of KDFW was horrible, but the FSDT version yields me about 25 to 30 FPS consistantly.Back to KJFK though, I do get a slight pause when I enter the 10 mile radius for the scenery to start getting drawn, but its quick and usually not that noticable. Maybe thats what is happening to the OP.

You could try to defrag your fsx drive. If your drive is massively fragmented you can experience stutters like the ones you are describing

Checked for duplicate afcad files in that area?

I suggest that you purchase FSDT's KJFK scenery right now, or purchase better video cards, that will run KJFK and KDFW at its best. The default FSX KIAD scenery was IMHO such a frame hog on my very weak PC, but with BluePrint's KIAD, I felt the difference. It rose to 15-25fps while running a few rounds with the HJG DC-9-32. And on a side note, I also have Budi Santoso's WIII Jakarta scenery, that runs better when compared to the FSX default scenery. Even with Jakarta being so crowded with both international and domestic traffic, 21fps is reached nonetheless.Dave.

Can a addon scenery make fsx run better?

How do you know what kind of video card(s)he has? He never said he had problems in Dallas, only the NYC area.I do agree though that FSDT version of JFK runs better than the default version.

Well it cant make FSX as a whole run better, but it can make certain airports run better, unless of course your talking about an addon like REX or GEX which offer wide spread improvements. Like I and another fellow mentioned already, FSDT KJFK actually runs better on out computers than the stock version. As well as FSDT KDFW runs better than the stock version on my computer at least, while also providing better visuals and more object. The thing is, some scenery designers are better at optimizing the sceneries to run well, while others devs aren't so talented. There are cases however when an addon scenery can make you FSX run worse. As an example Aerosofts Frankfurt runs well on my rig, but I lose a few FPS compared to the stock version. The same could also be said for some other addon airports like Paris' CDG or Orly when compared to the stock versions. You can pretty much bet that stuff from FSDT and FlyTampa will run as well or sometimes better than the stock version of the same airport, while providing more objects and a better overall look.

Scruffyduck software have a nice freeware tool that will identify duplicate afcads. Its called Airport Scanner and it can be found under the download centre function at http://www.scruffyduckscenery.co.uk/Steve

There are demo versions of FSDT KJFK, but it disables the buildings after a certain time, but if you save mid-air right before you anticipate it to start the stuttering then I'm guessing the buildings would be there the next time you load. This way you can try to debug and see if its the default kjfk that is the culprit
