Announcing MegaSceneryEarth(TM) Airports!

Featured Replies

Hey folks, I would like to direct you to my brand new website:MegaSceneryEarth™ AirportsRecently I've been getting into scenery development and began by working up some small airfields that exist as just plain simple strips plopped on top of the MSE textures. Well, I shouldn't say "plopped" - they appear to just be thrown on there since these smaller airports were never modeled accurately to begin with. Anyways I've found it extremely enjoyable and it has enriched my experience with MSE and given me a lot more to explore on my GA flights (which is all I do these days). Now I'm looking to both share what I have with others and also start collecting other airfields out there that are modeled for the same purpose as mine - to blend in seamlessly with the MSE ground textures and provide an environment for pilots when they are on the ground besides just runways and taxiways and generic default buildings. It would be accurate to say that this website is the equivalent of what OZx is to FTXPlease explore the site, learn more what it is about if you have MSE textures, bookmark it and hook up the RSS feed so you know when I find or release new airfields!I hope this turns into a great resource for other users of MegaSceneryEarth™ textures, and I look forward to the continuing development of my scenery design experience.

Perhaps you would care to elaborate? The fact that you made the effort to post something as useless as this comment has me curious as to why.

Hi there,Great effort and I hope you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of building the airports. Although I don't fly in this region I did remake some airports for the old MegaScenery PNW (FS9) but never published them. And I was always hoping that someone would do a better job and would publish them. No one did. Now you do! So keep up the great work!BTW neat website!

Drew, do you plan on doing any of the small fields in the areas covered by MegaScenery SoCal or MegaScenery Dallas?I know the CD editions of those long standing titles aren't the same as MegaSceneryEarth, but similar none the less, and those title only improved the AFCADs for the smaller airports.

Good luck and hope you are extremely successful with this venture. I like the name, already sounds good. My hometown airport is in dire need of a makeover. Gotta be lots of space shots after Hurricane Katrina and more recently the BP Oil Spill in the gulf. KGPT Gulfport/Biloxi Regional airport.Ray

Sorry, only MegaSceneryEarth is being worked on at this time, and only MSE areas I actually have purchased, which are all of NY/NJ/MAHowever that's just me, personally. Perhaps others will nail those for me to host on the site.

Thanks Ray, I hope I can keep the name ;) Been trying to get in touch with the PCAviator folks for a while now and finally said hell with it. I've disclaimed on the footer of each site as well as in the FAQ we're not directly affiliated - yet. They could still come barging in and yell at me to take the name off. I hope not though. We'll see.

Well, if they do come after you and ask you to take the name down, then that just proves they have no idea what the flight sim community is about. You are not selling anything, and you are disclaiming an affiliation, and if anything they will only gain sales from your endeavor. If they do, however, be sure to mention it here. They will get more bad press within the community then they could ever imagine.Good Luck.

Well yes that's my take on things as well but after 10 years in the games industry I've seen some pretty bone-headed moves by companies so I wouldn't be surprised... but still. I don't get the feeling PCAviator is like that.I'm kind of bummed that people will see this as me going against OZx and Orbx. I don't prefer MSE over FTX it just so happens I'm developing for areas not covered by FTX but currently by MSE. I'd really like to make some airports for FTX someday but I fear this may make them unwilling to work with me.

I don't think anybody sees it that way. AndIf you want to help make airports for FTX you should contact OZx. Work with them. That is what they do.

Hi Drew, first off, I think it's a great idea to establish a repository for these kinds of airport corrections and I'm sure it has lots of potential. However, my suggestion would be to not tie yourself to a specific third-party vendor regardless of what you personally use. If your approach to airport corrections and enhancements is based on the real-world airfields and their layout in MSE then they should also be easy to adapt to any other current or future photoreal add-on of the same area, freeware or payware. Moreover, they could possibly even be used without any photoreal base. In other words, your efforts could be much more "generic" and thus avoid the issues with the MSE title and/or potential competitors.Cheers, Holger

Oh I know, but I'm more interested in the east coast right now, where FTX doesn't exist... yet.

Well, I could drop the MSE name from the website, call it something more generic and related to realistic airports, and then call each of the airports I release an "MSE" version. Something like that? I'm not quite clear on how to present the airports the way you are describing them. But please, I very much value your advice in this matter.
