DaveI spent thousands of pounds on their educations, put them through university paid for one wedding, the deposit on a house for the other and then told them it was my turn now and it's time you paid back the investement. They both got jobs at BT and earn exorbitanat amounts of money and love both me and my wife like mad.Does that help at all.Oh and I'll probably get a 25 yr old single malt to help whilst I'm flying off one of them. Geof, on my Ti4200, I notice a definite performance loss if I go above 2xAA or go above 4xAF in FS9.. as a matter of fact, I picked 2xAA and 4xAF as the "sweet spot" for that very reason. In the sim, I have AA turned off and filtering set to trilinear. Are you telling me that you do not notice an fps change if you change those settings for the card?P4-2.8, Ti4200 128Meg, 1280x960x32 resolution, WinXP

Bob, what do you gain by creating this desktop?I have my desktop at 1024x768 and fly FS9 at 1280x960.. it switches by itself when I start up FS9. I run FS9 in full screen mode. Why the additional desktop, is this only for windowed mode?

Bert

I have a Geforce 4200ti 64meg card and I do notice some performance gain. Yes, the problem in running in 2X antialiasing and only seeing the spinning plane when you select a flight is gone. But I am unable to scroll down the kneeboard with this driver in full screen. The window becomes all "garbled".I still might keep these drivers, but having to jump into windowed mode just to see the kneeboard is a bit of a pain...BTW, what difference does moving to a video card with more memory have on Flight sim performance, if any? I have a P4 2.4 gig, 512 meg ram.Thanks.

Anyone know if unstalling old drivers is really necessary. According to the Nvidia faq, it's not:"The NVIDIA Detonator drivers are self-installing drivers. This makes it very easy for end-users to upgrade their drivers to the latest version. Simply download the appropriate drivers from the NVIDIA Web site at www.nvidia.com, and save the file to your hard drive. Make sure you are not running any download utilities in the background. This tends to corrupt the drivers if not disabled.Once the file is on your hard drive, disable any anti-virus programs running in the background. Certain anti-virus programs will prevent you from making any changes to your system files and can corrupt your drivers. Once you have prepared your system for the driver installation, simply run the drivers you have downloaded by double-clicking on the file. The drivers will automatically update your current drivers and make the necessary changes to your system."Any reason to disbelieve this? That's what I did with the 45.23 drivers and I saw a tremendous improvement with my ASUS 5600FXBangkok

BertI've used full screen for quite a while and I do think it looks better than windowed. It seems to have better depth perception, or maybe it's just my imagination.I hooked up a spare monitor to use for the kneeboard, airport plates, Encarta articles on whatever area I happen to be flying over or to, etc. Keeping additional windows on a second monitor in windowed mode is just less trouble than full screen. They stay put.Other things:I did notice that nVidia seems to have cleaned up the AA issue with full screen. GPU AA works much better with full screen and FSAA seems to work with windowed mode, at least at 1600x1200. I did cough up the bucks and replace my GF2 with a 5900U and it does a great job rendering even the default clouds.I'm also becoming more certain about the 2X "auto" Anistropy level being forced in the 52.16's and believe that the LOD level ("mipmap detail level" in the GPU panel) is also limited to a min of 0.The results of this:If you use the clear or fair weather themes the blurries are certainly more noticable than with the 4x.xx drivers where you could have 8X anistropy and crank LOD to -15 using one the various tools. However, I have recently been using downloaded static weather and it seems that around large cities the low visibilty range, even on partly cloudy days, is such that it lessens the blurries effect. ie; you can't see the blurries because the haze and blurry terrain sort of blend together.I don't have the inclination to do benchmarking, but it seems to me that the speed of this driver is very impressive and if the above real weather phenomoena is taken into account the IQ sacrificed is negligable, maybe even desirable. It leads to the issue of whether "maximum visibility" is "realistic visiblity". I personally don't think so.I can't speak to Quake3, Doom2, etc as I do not play FPS type games. The sim shows great promise. Now for MS to do something about the quite correctly reported "autogen XML" problem. It's a hog.

No reason to disbelieve it. I just feel better using safe mode. I also do a system backup beforehand.

Craig, I have the same kneeboard problem on a 128Meg Ti4200, so whatever more memory helps with, it is not that! Why this problem only manifests itself with the 2xAA setting and not at 4xAA, or AA disabled, baffles me... I guess switching to windowed mode to view the kneeboard is the work-around.. darn, I thought I would never go back to the 30.82s!

Thanks, Chris. I was waiting for your word on these drivers.Great success for me, huge improvement.Regards,Peter Sydney Australia

Did these drivers kill your Whazzup? Whazzup crashes after installing these drivers.

You guys want to hear about something weird? I D/L ed these drivers yesterday and put them in and set up at Seattle. I have AA disabled in the sim and set 2x AA And 2x Anis. I started the sim, I got 12-14 fps on the runway,I was not impressed plus it was like AA wasn't enabled jaggies etc. So, on a whim I turned the sim off and changed to 2qAA and 4X Anis and my frames went to 22! I thought it was a fluke loaded up jfk with brings me usually to a bad slide show, guess what 20-21 fps!!!Im very impressed with these drivers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:-ufo2

I am almost always locked at 25fps..with clouds and all details maximized. The drivers are pretty good, my 3dMark03 proves that with a score of 7200.P4 2.4C @3.44 285FSBAsus P4C800 Deluxe1gb Corsair XMS PC3500 Asus V9950 FX5900 Ultra 256mb 500/950SB Audigy2 Platinum ExPioneer Trayless 16x DVDLite On 52x CDRSunBeam RaybusVantec Stealth 520watt PSULian Li PC-75 Modded BlackDTek TC-4 Cpu WaterblockSwiftech MCW50 Video WaterblockEheim 1250 318GPH pumpBay Res 5 1/4Black Ice X2 Radiator (quad 120mm)Sony CPD-G520 21"Klipsch Promedia 4.1Eluminx El KeyboardLogitech Dual OpticalSaitek X-45 HotasPics: http://community.webshots.com/user/chksix2002

The window becomes>all "garbled".I'm running a TI 4200 card and I am not experiencing this kneeboard problem, although I am running the 52.16 drivers from Guru3D (I still run Windows 98). I'll download the WHQL drivers from Nvidia once they become available and see if I have the problem then.As for the 2x AA black screen problem, I can confirm that problem is now fixed. The other problem that seems to be fixed is dusk sky corruption when going from the VC to a completely full screen view (ie nothing in the window at all except the outside view). Whenever I did this before at sunset, the sky would turn from whatever colour it was to a wierd brown colour. I haven't been able to reproduce this problem (yet) with these drivers.

Hi,I just wonder if I can use these "FX" drivers with my ole gForce 3? As the name suggests it seems they are somehow FX specific, or am I wrong on this one? Thanks for any info.Etienne
