Boeing 737-NG Ground School Progress

Featured Replies

Hi Fellow Captains,I've been making some progress through my PMDG Chief set. As a multi-engine commercial instrumented rated real world pilot, I can attest that the fidelity of these manuals and the sim is unprecedented for a PC based system. Going back to the good old days of ATP and the advent of Microsoft Flight Simulator on my old 386; when 1MB of RAM costed $500 and 33 Mhz clock speed was cutting edge technology, lol!Anyway, I'm making some slow systematic progress through the systems manual. I'm current through the Electrical system. The enlarged schematics of systems are very helpful to understanding the engineering behind the baby. Did you know that the Transformer Rectifier bypass relays are automatically closed upon ILS glideslope interception? In the event a failure of either DC buses that power the Captain or FO's flight instruments remains uninterrupted. The automation and redundancy of this bird is awesome. It sure beats the pants out of the C150 I got my first ticket in. Anyway, next up, Engines, and the ever complicated EFIS and FMC....................................Best Wishes and God Bless the United States of America,BillyBob

:( :( :LMAO:I laughed myself to tears with that one!Back on topic: Getting to read the actual 737NG manuals must be an amazing experience. Just the thing to take flying the sim to the next level.PS: Studying for a month to learn a new plane, doesn't seem to be all that rare in our hobby. With Falcon 4.0 spent at least that much reading the manual and flying tutorials before even starting my first campaign.

I have a copy of the ATP manual on my shelf. That sim made MSFS look like a pitiful imitation.

I agree Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) made MSFS look pitiful. I loved the complete simulation they provided. The comprehsive voice air trafic control system for the time was ground breaking as was the comprehensive IFR enroute charts for the entire continental United States. B) Incidently, after a quick Wikipedia search, it turns out the ATP publisher (SubLogic) was sued by Microsoft. Luckily an agrement was reached allowing for the release. This was the begining of Microsofts monopolistic practices. :( Also, ATP was the first simulator to use both air traffic control and photorealistic panels (3DAGS, picture attached). Microsoft copied these several years later. This practice of copies is reminecent of the copying of the Machintoch operating system now called Windows!!! :( :( If anyone is interested here is a comprehensive story on the history of ATP.http://simpilot.net/~stotzer/history.htmlGod bless the United States of America, B) BillyBob

BillyBob, that's quite interesting. Do you think that maybe you could cut your signature down? Its longer than your first post.

The beginning? No - MS started before then...Don't forget that before starting MS, Bill Gates was at Harvard studying Law...There has been quite an increase just lately of lawsuits regarding software patent infringements for things that should not be allowed to be patented. There was even the serious suggestion that someone might try and own a patent to basic arithmetic and then be able to successfully sue over it. Lobby your representatives to get software patents overturned! They are destructive.Best regards,Robin.
