Add-On Future with MS Flight

I'd agree that the "traders" have show excessive greed in the world markets the past 30 years--with virtually no tangible benefits to show for it. That is "greed", as Fr. Bill discussed it above.
Yup count in inflation and the low US dollar... basically the last 10 years there has been negative growth. I worked in wirehouse 5+ years ago, didn't work out, I'm not a very good liar nor did I want to play money "psychologist". The fact is at that level you are no longer trying to make people money, but trying to make sure they don't lose it. You realize most people that do have the money, didn't earn it, and they need to pay you a commission otherwise they're so stupid they'd lose it.I think there is a fundamental problem when you have money and the only bank that will accept your large deposit is Goldman Sachs...well there were others but we all know what happened to them.

Greed, for the lack of a better word, is good. It is present in all human beings and predictable and constant like the speed of light. Just deal with it. The world si not gonna change, people are not gonna change and human civilization will be extinct at some point or another. Just enjoy the ride while it lasts. If you don't, most others will.Greed will make sure Microsoft do their best in making a good flight simulator. The more it sells the more resources will be spent on developing and upgrading the franchise.

I don't think Gordon Gekko could have said it better himself :(

In stark contrast to MS Flight Simulator Gekko was a lot sharper in 1987 than in 2010 :D

...It is also a given that MS has a history of wanting to dominate any market they enter. Let's no lose sight of the fact that MS' sole purpose of marketting a new FS is profits.
Every company wants to maximize market share and profits. And yes, MS Flight will help MS maximize market share and profits because MS Flight will be a superior product (we hope!) due to investment in development.
Any company with a P/E ratio greater than 1 or 2 is a long term investment.
You are confusing a long-term investment with a crapshoot.
MS has been making flight sim since 1982... real short term thinking there!
Ah, yes, perspective! So true, so many hours of enjoyment for so many.Cheers,- jahman.

However, greed has the capacity to often hinder good judgement and common sense. So, greed does/will not nessasarily promote a good flight sim.

Exactly, look what happened to Gecko and Blue Star Airlines...which neatly brings us back to aviation. :(

The best flight sim is of course made through cooperation between passionate and talented individuals. Microsoft did provide the SDK and independent developers did their thing. A very generous arrangement in my mind. The best solution would be for MIcrosoft to create a set of userfriendly tools so anyone anywhere could create stunning freeware. That would be the least greedy option!

Sure! And the SDK should include a free installation tester and whatnot so the developer can test the installer is well behaved and that there are no memory leaks once the add-on is loaded and run for a certain time. Then the freeware developer could upload his add-on to the freeware section of the FS Flight Marketplace, for free. I'm sure this could happen, and I hope it will.Cheers,- jahman.

my thoughts ..again..lol..whats is backward compatibility all about..lets think about this. From "my perspective" it involves add on software that enable MSFS(the franchise) to allow software developers to enhance what MSFS could not or did not want to do. besides the planes, most of us bought add ons to enhance the environmental like REX, UT, GEX, Shockwave 3D Lights REDUX, and a host of a lot more..and by the way. I owned all of these and a lot more. As I have stated before I'd rather not have to but add ons to enhance the environment and other utilities and but add ons like aircraft or airports. I also own a lot of product by Aerosoft, Eaglesoft, PMDG. I have Go flight products. basically a small flight deck. But I do remember this fact, I have been very fortunate to have the funds to make this experience possible, but a lot of people do not have or will not spend the money on our hobby the same way. Nor will they be buying a lot of add ons, they will not be spending money to upgrade their card let alone the motherboard or PC. I love this forum, but sometime we are like a bunch of grumpy o old men, that are consumed by our personal attachment to the past flight sim and expect it to stay that way for ever. Here is something to think about. Look what happened to pro pilot 1 & 2, how about flight unlimited 1, 2 3 (owned those as well).all with promise..all died..if MSFS, doesn't find a new model..if will die as well, just a matter of time. Now with that said, Aerosoft, ORBX, PMDG, and other major flight sim add ons will have a wider audience, more revenue more R & D..even better add ons..look how long it took REX to come out. I guarantee with a more centralized consumer their revenues will increase. Once I will say this again, if I have to buy some of my add ons in the future and add ons that our a bonuses..planes, cities, but have better performance, I'm all in. another example...electric cars, you know why most of them look sos ugly, not enough money put into battery technology, why not enough R&D ( no revenue), no electic converters in garages, no electric charging stations, but does that mean we don't try and build them...and this is coming from a man who has only owned German cars. I'm all for change. LETS JUST WAIT AND SEE!! and if this is truely your hobby like it is mine be less cynical and more positive, if it fails, guess what happens..NOT A DAMN THING we go back to FSX or FS9 and enjoy our hobbies like we have been.one last note..again.being an owner of a windows device.I thought it was pretty stupid for the iphone to have a market place in the beginning, thought it was just for teenagers to do something, spend a little bit of their allowance, .I have an android, and guess why..I have about 30 programs halve of which i payed for in the android market..lol

I'd say the values that guide 'successful' developers mostly concern pleasing users. If greed hinders your good judgment you just won’t last... (a.) as an employee (b.) as a company.I see the store as good for users. So it adds value to Flight as a product.IMO the idea that a Flight store itself could be a cash windfall is sort of pie-in-the-sky ;)I think they’ll look at it more as a dividend for a job well done :(

The market isn't that mature yet, I can think of three companies that have multiple projects in the works that I know for certain will be released this year. If you are going to apply the console logic to Flight there should be a few launch titles planned already. And we all know that's not the case.

Let's all hope this is so. :(
