January 4, 201115 yr Hi,I am currently running FS9 on vsta, 64 bit. I would like to install FSX gold edition and I would like to know where to install it. Should I put it into program files(x86)or install it into an external folder? Thanks for any inputDoug Douglas Morlan
January 4, 201115 yr I created a folder in C:/Games to hold FSX and all addons. This will help to prevent UAC from interfering with installations and file tweaking. Also, I check "run this program as administrator" in the compatability tab for FSX and various addons. If you don't have UAC on, it probably doesn't matter where you install it, but I like the protection of it. Curt Branch
January 4, 201115 yr The best place for an FSX install will probably be the root directory of any drive you happen to have. There are two reasons for this. Firstly there is the User Account Control feature of Windows Vista which makes it troublesome to edit files which have been installed into either of your Program Files folders. Vista guards these folders like a mother hen. The other reason why you should install FSX into a drive's root folder has to do with features of the SDK if you intend to install this as well - a number of tools are easier to configure when FSX is in the root folder.Hit the More Options button at the start of the install process to select another directory.Good luck. January 4, 201115 yr Set FSX on its own drive if possible. There is an FSX setup guide that has been written by Nick N over at simforums.http://www.simforums.com/Forums/topic29041.htmlI have used the guide in the past and have had good results. \Robert Hamlich/

January 4, 201115 yr Ideally, FSX should be on a seperate drive (prefereably an SSD, if not a fast SATA).If that's not possible, then on a seperate partition,If that's not possible, then the FSX folder should be on the root of the C drive.Whther you RAID your drives and whether your use RAID 0 or RAID 1 is another argument altogether. That's it in a nutshell, I think.IAN Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)
January 4, 201115 yr Never partition a single hard drive. If you are going to put games on a separate partition, have it on a separate physical drive or on the main hard drive as windows if you are only running 1 drive.
