My NGX PC is one year old and waiting ...

Featured Replies

Hey! it was last year around this time in January, when I thought NGX is coming out soon so I'll put togther a nice machine good to do FSX with all the goodies, and that wait started thinking release would be March, then maybe June etc... I forgot about it eventually till today whilst doing house cleaning, I stumbled upon the purchase receipts of the parts I bought, looking at the dates I just thought to write it down here :) Keeping my Fingers Crossed, anyway its config is i7-920 riding on Intel DX58SO, ATI5850 (FSX is smooth with DX10) @ 1440x900x32 (may be that's why), 6GB g-skill, Intel X-25M 80GB SSD, and at stock speeds. Using turbo boost it runs at 2.93GHz with stock cooler. Planning to upgrade to Corsair H-50 liquid cooling to zap it up to 4 Ghz.I hope NGX gets to BETA stage soon ...Best Regards,B h a s k a r - K r i s h n a

Why do you want to buy Liquid cooling to OC an i7 to 4GHz?Best Regards,Bert.

Well actually the H-50 would be good for a 4.0GHz overclock, and you shouldn't really regard it as water cooling because its a small, self contained unit that will never perform nearly as well as a proper water cooling setup. I have the Noctua DH14 which compares in price and performance to the H-50's. I would have bought the H-50 had it not been for some "leakage" problems that I read about. I'm sure they are fine and very unlikely to leak, but just the thought of it makes me cringe so much.

The H-70 is out. It is a completely redesigned version of the H-50. It is much more efficient and cools so much better! It was eighty somethIng USD on newegg last time I checked. May have been a promo.

The H-70 outperformed several custom water loops in Hard OCP's testing actually - supposed to be really good but it's apparently on the loud side for a water system because of the two fans.

Yes, it is certainly not silent, but I always go for more effective over dBa. I have headphones on anyway. Btw, not to hijack this thread, but does anyone no how to control which sound comes out of the headphones? I would like to have all aircraft sounds come through my main speakers and have just ATC come through my headphones. This would make it more realistic.

USB headset, seperate the outputs for FSInn or Squawkbox

As far as I know you can't do that with default ATC. FSX doesn't have provide this functionality. But when it comes to flying online you can easily set your speakers as the default device (so FSX sounds will play there) and then instruct Squawkbox (or whichever you use) to use a specific output via its own settings. Now in order to be able to do this you Windows must be able to see the headset as a separate sound device. There are three ways to do that:a). You can buy USB headset,b ). Buy a second soundcard and plug the headset there orc). Some soundcards (I know the onboard sound that Asus P7P55 uses does) have the option to separate the rear from the front jacks so that they appear as two separate sound devices.

Thanks!

I believe you can if you have a USB headset. I use a XBOX360 controller with a headset plugged into it with the ATC coming thru the headset and aircraft noise coming thru speakers. In FSX go to Settings>sound then go to the area that says Windows sound devices, under sounds scroll to the name of your speakers, and under voice scroll to the name of your USB headset, and that should work(atleast that's how it does for me).Kevin W.

I have the H50, and find it insufficient for overclocks up to 4.0Ghz. I currently have my system overclocked to 3.4Ghz (with turbomode it will dynamically boost up to 3.6 or 3.8 under certain loads) and I find the temperatures to be in a comfortable range. I should note however that my 4 case fans are all set to their lowest settings (I hate the noise).

Corsair just announced the H60 at CES now too - will probably replace the H50 I'd guess.

I just installed the H70 a few days ago on my 950. Pretty impressive little cooler for the price.

Thanks for the info on Hydro series, my problem is the size of my computer, will all the stuff, it widths at about the height of 5850, length just to fit in an ATX DX58SO + SMPS, height to fit in ATX mobo exactly, all this due some limitations, I'm probably going to do a proper mod to my case to allow for the H70 (I'm liking it). All this hassle, I don't want to splurge on an Alienware or a gaming laptop, the benefits of my case, its a portable PC, fully upgradable components wise and I carry it along everywhere I go :) the only problem is Core temperatures, it runs at around 70 degrees with the stock cooler, Even though I completely remove my computers side cover and normally keep my PC powered up at all times ( to maintain thermal stabalization )Best,B h a s k a r - K r i s h n a
