January 11, 201115 yr Is direct x 10 worth having if im running fs9 only, or will it affect my performance if my vid card isnt the best out there. Im doing some research in optimizing my computer to get as much performance as possible, and noticed that im running directx 10(i didnt even know i installed it)Thanks Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.
January 11, 201115 yr follow the suggestion in your signature and fly - if your system is stable don't chance a problem with an update to DX10 as FS9 cannot use the 'bells and whistles' DS10 or DX11 'bring to the table.'you wish to improve FS performance ... get a fast CPU or overclock. this is the best 'bang for the buck' and the improvement happens outside messing with the FS code.-- D. January 12, 201115 yr Moderator FS9 doesn't support DX10. Period.FSX + SP2 or Acceleration just barely supports a small subset of DX10 features. In any case, there are three very specific requirements for DX10:1. Vista or Win72. video card hardware & software driver support3. application support Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
January 12, 201115 yr FS9 doesn't support DX10. Period.Hm .... that's interesting.I have Windows 7 32 bit, an NVidia GTX460, I'm running FS2004 and I definitely have DirectX 11 installed. And everything is running just fine.Does anyone have any idea how I have no problems if FS2004 doesn't support any version of DirectX above version 9, or is backwards compatibility installed into version 11?David
January 12, 201115 yr Just because you have DX11 installed doesn't mean that every program supports DX11's features, Just picture it as backward compatbility. FS9 doesn't/ can't access DX10/11. Honestly given todays hardware no modern PC should have any difficulties running FS9 at full w/addons.
January 12, 201115 yr fs9 was written to use DX7 (I think) and requires certain DX components. Obviously it will use the equivalents from dx10/11, if thats what is installed, else it couldn't run at all!Dave
January 12, 201115 yr FS9 was written to use DX9, with Windows 7 FS9 will run just fine with addons. So will Vista DX10 is just a program language to display the 3D objects on your screen along with your graphics card. It will work with DX9 programs and under as the DX9 language is still there it is just improved. But not in the sense of performance as FS9 isint coded to use the new feutures of DX10 and up Regards Michael Atherton
January 12, 201115 yr Author im guessing there is no benefit in downgrading to dx9 as the dx program does not effect performance? i dont play other games on my computer, just fs9 , so no need to really have dx10 if it will affext performance. First rule is to never downgrade a DirectX installation !!! or you will run in troubles !So take care of some old installers who want install a old DirectX version !!Always cancel. And for put a end .. mind you .. all the DirectX versions are backward compatibles. So no problems using DirectX10 as DirectX9 is implemented.Your game(s) will use the parts of DirectX they need .. even a game requiring DirectX7 will run under DirectX10 (if the game is compatible with your OS)Regards.Gus.
January 12, 201115 yr Author thank you, ill leave it the way it is then. Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.
January 12, 201115 yr As far as I know, the dx installer just wont allow you "downgrade" even if you try. When the installer finds newer files installed it just pops up the message "DX installation finished" (or similar) without actually doing anything. (I suppose you could force a downgrade by "breaking" your current install somehow)Dave
